Halloween means it’s time for the time honoured tradition of singing, dancing and homemade props as Brad and Janet try to navigate their way through the strange and wonderful world of Dr. Frankenfurter. The Broadway Theatre does not allow rice or hotdogs but there will be prizes for the best dressed so don’t miss it. There are two screenings Halloween night tickets are $19.

A world premiere of Michaela Jeffery’s WROL (Without Rule of Law) is a dark comedy about a band of 8^th grade student who are convinced the world is coming to an end and people can’t be trusted to protect them. They band together to do something in the face of impending doom. Tickets are $30-$56.

Who says puppet shows are just for the kids. Wide Open Children’s Theatre has developed a show that is still family friendly but with a new spin on its traditional shows. Balloonacy is a wordless Charlie Chaplin style puppet show about an old man, living alone who’s solo birthday celebration is interrupted by a playful red balloon. Wide Open continues to push their storytelling with this world build of minatures. Tickets are $12 – $17.

The Bassment

A few stars of Saskatoon’s music scene are banding together to raise money for a good cause. Ellen Froese, Vesti Hanson, Lisa Unrau and Wilma Groenen are staging their annual Diva’s fundraiser for the Prairie Hospice Society. This show will be a rocking good time and all money raised will go towards helping people in our city who are facing the end of life. Tickets are $47.

What happens after ‘Happily Ever After’? Thanks to Steven Sondheim, you don’t have to wonder. The Saskatoon Summer Players are getting ready to head Into the Woods. It’s the musical story of a Baker and his wife who long desperately for a child. An evil witch has cursed them and to break the spell, they have to gather items for her. Along their quest, they meet characters from the beloved Grimm fairy tales Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack and the Beanstalk. The music is wonderful and it leaves the audience to question whether there really is such a thing as a happy ending. I’ve included a clip from the movie version of the story to give you a little taste. Tickets are $24 – $34.
