A new play by Saskatchewan’s Todd Devonshire is about to hit the stage and give us a glimpse into Canada’s forgotten past. The Boat is set in the 1960s and follows the story of two doctors set up in an off shore clinic on a boat 15 miles off the coast of Nova Scotia. It’s in international waters, free from Canadian laws, where women are allow the choice to end their pregnancy. Devonshire says with the reversal of Roe v. Wade south of the border, Canadians need to know how far our country has come. Tickets are $27 – $32.

What do you do as a milestone birthday approaches? For Ellen Nasser nearing her 40th birthday inspired her to look within, committing to writing her thoughts down everyday in her journal, no matter how big or small the topic. The result was Interlude: Happy(ish) Ever After, an audio book that weaves Nasser’s stories with her music. Many songs are about her family, love and the messiness of everyday life, ideas we can all relate to. Nasser is launching Interlude Friday at the Bassment. It will be an evening full of music and story. Tickets are $30 – $40.

For an evening of intimate, heart-felt music you’re going to want to check out Alberta singer songwriter Eric Kane. He’s out on his Love is a Weapon pt2 tour and making a stop at Art Bar. It’s a small room and that’s just how Kane likes it as he’s focused this trip cross-country on alternative spaces where people are eager to hear live music. Tickets are $35.

Grab your poodle skirt and your sweetheart and head to the Broadway Theatre for An Evening with The Bromantics. The six-piece Saskatchewan band is known for it’s high energy and slick suits. Their show is a tribute to the golden era of music with the soaring harmonies and tunes from artists like Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and Sam Cooke. Tickets are $40.

Shake off the winter blues with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra and a performance that will take you on a journey from darkness to light. Spring Fever will feature SSO principal bassoonist Stephanie Unverricht in a performance of Mozart’s joy-filled Bassoon Concerto. Maestra Tania Miller returns to her home province to lead the orchestra in this program which also includes pieces from Beethoven, Vaughan Williams, and Schumann. Tickets are $50 – $103.

She paved the way for women in rock and her own, personal story, is one of resilience, rebellion, and advocacy. Bif Naked is a dynamic force and a new documentary tells how she conquered breast cancer, kidney failure, heart surgery, divorce and the cutthroat entertainment industry to become a rock icon. This intimate evening will feature a screening of the documentary and then Bif will take the stage for a Q&A and acoustic performance. Tickets are $40.

Persephone Theatre is joining forces with Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre and Royal Manitoba
Theatre Company to present Rubaboo: A Métis Cabaret. This immersive musical experience was created by Andrea Menard who’s come back home to Saskatoon to star in the show. Rubaboo is the Michif word for soup or stew and that’s what this show is, a musical feast for the audience as you go on a journey into the beautiful world of the Métis. Tickets are $57 – $71.
