The Saskatoon Summer Players are hitting the stage with a hit movie turned musical Legally Blonde The Musical. This is the story many of us know about sorority sister Elle Woods who, after being dumped by her boyfriend, decides to enrol in law school and prove to everyone she can be serious. This is a production full of incredible dance and music numbers that takes the story and amps it up. Tickets $25 – $35 are going fast.

Saskatoon Pride Festival

Pride celebrations continue in our city this week. There are a ton of events to take in including several dance parties, PLCL Pride Bingo (Thurs.), An Even Bigger GAY party at the Coors Event Centre (Fri.), and of course, the big parade on Sunday that starts at noon and ends up with the Pride in the Park festival in Rotary Park. There will be drag shows, a DJ, cultural performances and a family fun zone. Some events are ticketed and others, completely free.

Breathe

You still have a little over a week to catch Sum Theatre’s annual Theatre in the Park in a neighbourhood near you. Breathe is a musical journey that follows a fish seeking refuge on an island inhabited by a reclusive, fire breathing dragon. The two must adapt to survive. It’s a story about finding your place in the world and achieving things beyond your wildest imagination. It’s free for everyone to attend.

Ācimowin Film Festival

It’s a film festival dedicated to Indigenous story and the preservation of culture and language. The Ācimowin Film Festival is back for a second year with truly homegrown, prairie stories like Sweet Summer Pow Wow. It’s also a chance for aspiring filmmakers to pitch their ideas to the industry. The film screenings are at the Broadway Theatre, The Roxy, and the Remai Modern. Festival passes are $30 – $40.

Annette is a Bimbo!

If you’re looking for a feel good show stuffed full of chart-topping hits then you’re not going to want to miss The Women’s Company production Annette is a Bimbo!. Join Nancy Parker and her friends at her 16th birthday sleepover as the girls talk about their worries, crushes, and not fitting in. Luckily, Nancy just got a magic record for her birthday and it summons Annette, a magical drag queen, who’s there to help them sort it all out. This is a beautiful coming of age story that was created right here in our province. Tickets are $27 – $37.

The Newcomer

From the folks of Ay, Caramba! Theatre Company, The Newcomer is a tale of Juma, a young man who after living in a refugee camp for 12 years is recruited to immigrate to Saskatoon with his family. This comedy started out as a Fringe Festival show and is one of resilience and hope. The Newcomer was written by Saskatoon’s own Yulissa Campos who was inspired by a friend’s own refugee journey. It’s all about the search of newcomers to find a place where they belong. Tickets are $27 – $32.

Farah Siraj

The Bassment
It’s a fusion of Flamenco, jazz, bossa nova and pop that has made Farah Siraj a musical ambassador. The vocalist has performed all over the world and now brings the world to us with a show at The Bassment. Siraj will be joined by Saskatoon’s Eclipse Chorus for several numbers. Tickets are $46 – $56.

Rock Your Roots

Victoria Park
The community will come together to show its commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in the Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation. The crowd will be led by dignitaries, knowledge keepers, residential school survivors and Indigenous leaders along the route along the riverbank. There will be cultural performers stationed along walk to celebrate the beauty of culture. It will end in Victoria Park where there will be a ceremony led by residential school survivors and then activities for the whole family.

Wanuskewin Heritage Park
Wanuskewin Heritage Park is ready to invite you in to the celebration of National Indigenous Peoples Day. The celebrations will be filled with dancers and music, guided tours and traditional games. There’s plenty of fun fo rthe whole family. The best part is admission is by donation every weekend in June.

The Bassment
It’s pretty darn exciting, Saskatoon can now call Juno nominated singer songwriter Royal Wood one of our own. The celebrated musician recently moved with his family to our fair city and he’s got a trio of concerts lined up to give us a sneak peek at his new music. New Home, New Music‘s already sold out for one show and tickets are going fast for the other two at $33 – $43.

Riverdance
