Home Fires Burn
Thursday
Glen at Crossmount
If you’re looking for a summer read, why not a tale set right here at home. Saskatoon award-winning author Anthony Bidulka is launching his new book Home Fires Burn. It’s the latest instalment in the Mary Bell series and follows the trans woman’s journey to escape from small town Saskatchewan to find herself. Mary returns home to work as a private investigator. She’s hired by Canadian country music star Evan Whatley to find out who killed his father. It’s a story of suspense, humour and heart as Mary works to solve the mystery and deal with her own relationships with her family. As with all Bidulka’s launches, this one has a country theme so cowboy hats, boots, and bandanas… they are all encouraged.

Saskatoon Soaps Improv Comedy returns to its soap opera roots to celebrate 40 years of funny. The Soaps, aptly named because they began as a weekly soap opera at the Broadway Theatre. It was still improv but the characters would return each week for a new adventure. Fun fact, back then tickets were 99¢ if you can believe it. To mark four decades, the Soaps will be welcoming some of the original players back to the stage including Mark Melymick and Lee Bells. Tickets are $16.
