Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan

Festival Site on the Riverbank

The audience loved Shakespeare’s Will, the crowds have been steady for Cymbeline and now Daniel Macdonald’s Iago Speaks is on the stage at the brand new festival site. Macdonald’s play is a comedic look at the Othello villain and his jailor as he searches for meaning while keeping Iago under lock and key. The show starring Saskatoon favourites Joshua Beaudry and Skye Brandon has been getting great reviews. Iago Speaks runs until August 21st and you still have a few chances to see Cymbeline, that performance runs until Sunday. Tickets are $20 – $39.

Get ready to ride, eat and rock out. The Saskatoon Ex is on right now and there’s a ton of fun for the whole family. Don’t miss live concerts by acts like Streetheart Thursday at the Kicking Horse Saloon or the Grandstand featuring performances by Theory (Thurs.), Paul Brandt (Fri.) and Trooper (Sat.). The midway features a full compliment of rides to spin and flip thrill seekers. New food offerings this year include the tried and true favourites like spudnuts and Doukhobor bread. For the adventurous rainbow grilled cheese, Mac N Cheese ice cream and Pop Rocks popcorn chicken. Admission to the grounds is $10, tickets to the grandstand shows are $25 and a Superpass for the rides costs $50.

Barenaked Ladies

Bessborough Gardens

You know you’re in for a great time when the Barenaked Ladies take the stage. The band has been rocking out for three decades and has had hit after hit including Pinch Me, One Week and If I Had A Million Dollars. The group is out on its Detour De Force tour right now and bringing all the fun to the Bess Gardens. Vancouver alt rockers The Odds will be joining them. Tickets are $73.

Rock the River

If you like classic rock ‘n’ roll, you’re not going to want to miss Rock the River. The annual Rock 102FM’s music festival has artists like Lee Aaron, Burton Cummings, Nazareth, Helix and Kim Mitchell on the program. There’s also the Show & Shine weekend running at the same time downtown from 1st to 4th Avenue. It’s a weekend full of hit songs, a weekend pass is $220 and day passes will run you $78. Get ready to rock out!

TCU Place

Toronto rockers Metric are back out on the Canadian highway and making a stop in our neck of the woods. The Juno award winners have just released its eighth record Formentera and is criss-crossing the country to share the tunes. Tickets to the show are $36 – $61.

Music for the Gut

A homegrown music showcase designed to raise money for Crohn’s & Colitis research is celebrating a decade of good. Music for the Gut was founded by the Hughton family, three of its members live with inflammatory bowel disease. Each year, this concert features top Saskatchewan talent performing rock, pop and musical theatre tunes. To date, Music for the Gut has raised $172,000 for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada towards research. This is an incredible show and it’s all for a good cause. Tickets are $38.
