It’s easy to be intimidated by the grand nature of traditional opera and that’s why Saskatoon’s Little Opera on the Prairie (LOOP) has created this show. Masquerade 2016 is an event for opera fans AND for those just wanting to try it out. “It’s a way people can experience an art form we love without the commitment of a 3-hour event,” explains artistic director Anastasia Winterhalt.

Masquerade 2016 will be a journey through the world of music as it’s performed by some of the best vocalists from right here on the prairies. “You will have an opportunity to listen to these artists up close in a fun environment,” explains Winterhalt.

Guests are invited to don their little black dresses and favourite mask as they enjoy a cocktail and appetizers served up by celebrated Chef Anthony McCarthy.

This event is a fundraiser for LOOP and the company relies on proceeds to help produce recitals and shows throughout the year including their current collaboration with the Strata Festival to premiere new music in 2017. “As musicians, our lifeblood is to be able to perform but the reality is that not all of us get to sing at the Met.” Winterhalt says, “This is a chance for us to continue working right here at home.”
