Brit’s Picks Aug. 11 – 18

EX-treme Fun      Now – Sun.

Exhibition Grounds

The Saskatoon Ex continues into this weekend and the talent keeps coming. On the grandstand check out Montreal pop rockers Simple Plan (Aug. 11) then its back to the country with a show by Brett Kissel (Aug. 12) and the performances round out on Saturday night with Tom Cochrane with Red Rider. If you want a little action for the kids head into the Prairieland Halls for performances by Dora The Explorer, Bob the Builder and my personal family favourite, SuperDogs. There’s rides, spudnuts and so much more, admission is $9-$16. That’ll get you in the gates but you’ll need to budget for more if you want the whole experience. Fireworks nightly at 11p.m.

Next Big Thing   Sat.

O’Brian’s Event Centre

Hot off a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and in the midst of a world tour, Saskatoon is getting a chance to see a musician on the rises. Sturgill Simpson has a definite Van Morrison sound to compliment his country soul. The musician is out on the road with his new album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. Tickets are $35.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Sista      Friday

Capitol Music Club

She’s about as bad ass a girl can get. Saskatoon’s own Megan Lane delivers a driving beat, hard rocking guitar and growling vocals that make you wanna be tougher. In 2014 she broke out with Sounding the Animal an album she worked on with Hawksley Workman. Lane just got off a European tour and while she’s home with family she’s decided to share the musical love. Tickets are $10.
