Some of Canada’s top country musicians will be hitting the stage in support of children and families right here in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon Crisis Nursery presents the Sask. Country Showcase. The evening will feature artists like Jess Moskaluke, Aaron Prichett, Jason Blaine and Tenille Arts. The show is set up like a concert at the Grand Ole Opry with a songwriter’s circle where three musicians perform and tell stories behind the music and then a featured artist takes the stage. Tickets are $49 and all the proceeds go directly to the Crisis Nursery.

You still have a few chances left to see this world premiere on the Live Five Independent Theatre stage. Inspired by true-crime podcasts comes Girl in the Box. It’s a tale of the first woman to ever appear on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. Girl in the Box is the story of Ruth Eisemann-Schier a grad student who along with her boyfriend Gary Krist, was arrested for participating in the 1968 kidnapping of heiress Barbara Jane Mackle. This thriller is a brand-new show from Scantily Glad Theatre that created last year’s SCUM: a manifesto. Tickets are $22 – $26.

It’s a sure sign that Christmas is on its way and the green light to start your decorating. The Festival of Trees is back for 9 days of holiday fun. You and the family can wander through the decorated trees and gingerbread lane getting into the Christmas spirit. The festival runs 9:00a.m. – 9:00p.m. daily starting Sunday, special hours for this Friday and Saturday. There will be face painting, story time and pictures with Santa. Special events include the father/daughter gala, a Christmas carnival and a tea party with the princesses. Tickets are $5 – $12 with a family pass of $27.

Jack Semple’s B.B. King Tribute

The King may be gone but his music lives on. The soulful vocals and blues guitar of B.B. King is being celebrated at The Bassment this weekend. Saskatchewan guitar legend Jack Semple has gathered up a killer 7-piece band to pay tribute to the king in not one, but two shows. Saturday night is already sold out but there are tickets still available for Friday. $32 – $42 will get you in the door.
