It’s a night filled with homegrown music of all genres. One night each year, our city’s musicians gather to celebrate the past year full of achievements and do what they do best, perform. The Saskatoon Musicians’ Association is celebrating 109 years of music with a gal performances by The Randy Woods Band, Theresa Sokyrka and Chicks with Sticks. Ska, classical, pop and roots music are on the menu and it’s a great chance to get to know some of our local talent. Tickets are $25 – $35. I’ve been proud to serve as emcee for this event for the past few years and take it from me, it’s a great night out.

Saskatoon International Burlesque Festival

Broadway Theatre

It’s all about the art of the tease for a brand-new festival in Saskatoon. The Saskatoon International Burlesque Festival is a celebration of the sultry variety show and will include music, comedy and striptease. Frisky Friday and Sexy Saturday will feature performers from right across Canada and the United States including Chicago contortionist Dahlia Fatale and Vancouver temptress Ava Lure. The weekend wraps up with what organizers are calling “Sunday school”, a day full of burlesque workshops for every skill level… beginners welcome! Tickets to the shows are $30 and the workshops run between $20 – $30.

Amigos Cantina

Saskatoon has an amazingly vibrant music scene and one of the reasons for that is because of the airtime local acts get on community radio. CFCR FM is in the midst of its annual fundraising campaign. Local acts The Radiant and Department Heads as well as B.C.’s Old Soul Rebel will take to the stage to help with the effort. This is a night of indie rock is your chance to help keep our community radio station humming for another year. Tickets are $10.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

A dark comedy about the complexities of marriage and the games we play. Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf is a play by Edward Albee that has seen stage and screen adaptations. The story is intriguing as the bitter and frustrated middle-aged couple George and Martha draw their new guests Nick and Honey into a night of psychological games. This show opens the Live Five Independent Theatre season and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. Tickets are $22 – $26.
