The final show of Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre’s 2018/2019 season is one of a family torn apart by tragedy. Two Indians is the story of two Indigenous women Win and Roe who live in very different worlds one in the city and the other on reserve. As they reunite after years apart, the cousins try to find middle ground when confronting family dynamics and political issues. This show was written by Falen Johnson in response to the Idle No More movement. Although the topics may be heavy, there are some really beautiful, light-hearted moments. Tickets are $20 – $25.

He’s got a soulful, growly sound that blends pop sensibilities with a bluesy undertone. I am a huge fan of Bobby Bazini’s music as this Quebec native continues to criss-cross the globe. Bazini is currently working on a new album, his fourth and a follow up to the hugely successful Summer Is Gone. His Canadian summer tour promises old favourites and first listens. Tickets are $33 and there are still some available.

Duelling Pianos                       Saturday

TCU Place

Stand up, sing loud and stay late… that’s the motto for an evening of music from across the decades as the players from Aussie Rules Piano Bar in Calgary come to Saskatoon for one night only. If you’ve never been to a duelling piano bar, you’re in for a treat as TCU Place plays host to this blend of comedy and music. This is a full evening with a dinner, cocktails and, of course amazing entertainment. Requests will be taken all night so you can sing right along. Tickets are $55.

Back by popular demand, Gillian Snider is at the Bassment this weekend paying tribute to Saskatoon’s favourite daughter. Gillian Sings Joni is a tribute to Joni Mitchell and her original music as well as the songs she chose to record. Folk music and jazz standards, this show has them all. Tickets are $24 – $29.

Forget about braving the cold, dreary Fall days to meet literary greats, The Word on the Street Festival now has a new annual tradition in June. This Sunday head out along Broadway Avenue to meet your favourite authors, listen to them read and get that new book signed. Word on the Street is free to the public and there’s something for every age and taste. Among the notable authors are poets Sonya Lalli and Barbara Langhorst, rock and roll memoirist Grant Lawrence and mystery writer Gail Bowen. Along with the public readings, there will also be a songwriter’s circle, activities for the kids and cultural performances. This event is absolutely FREE.
