Indie Rock Musical        Now – April 8

Persephone Theatre

A musical spectacle about romantic entanglements is front and centre at the Remai Arts Centre right now. Onegin is a rock opera based on the novel by Alexander Pushkin and set to music of Tchaikovsky. It centers around Evgeni Onegin who has just inherited his uncle’s farm and gets romantically caught up with the neighbouring family. He flirts with one of the daughters who’s already engaged to his friend Valdimir. This show has been met with wide acclaim and won many awards. It’s a touring show from Vancouver’s Arts Club. Tickets are going fast and the run has already been extended once. They run $26 – $46.

Lights On Fire         Friday

O’Brians Event Centre

Hot on the heels of a huge performance at the 2018 Juno Awards show, Ontario musician Lights will be bringing her new music to Saskatoon. She released Skin & Earth early last year and has been busy touring across the country to promote it. Lights also released a comic book in conjunction with the album. She has been a huge advocate for women in the music industry and this is your chance to see her live. Tickets for the show are $35 and it’s an all ages event.

Tragically Hip Tribute       Saturday

Capitol Music Club

It’s a chance to rock out to the music of the Tragically Hip once more. The 100th Meridian brings The Hip’s flare for the stage back to life again as it plays through the band’s enormous catalogue. From Bobcaygeon to New Orleans is Sinking and every tune in between. The group will hit the stage at the Capitol this weekend. Tickets are $25 and the opener is the Black Eyed Creez.

Heading into the Easter break and I know that families are looking for ways to keep the little ones busy. So, why not take them out to a show? Wide Open Children’s Theatre has just the ticket with its take on the classic story of Cinderella. This show has all the puppet fun you’ve come to expect from the company as Cinderella tries to outwit her stepmother and enjoy life climbing trees and playing outside all day. Milky White the Cow, a giant and the Gingerbread Man all come along for the fun. Tickets are $10 – $15.

There’s not many musicians out there that can lay claim to a six decade long career but Rod Stewart is still going strong. Stewart is currently out on tour for the Spring and Summer and he’s just finished his latest album Blood Red Roses that’s set to be released later this year. Although he’s sure to be testing out some of his new songs, there’s no doubt his classics like Maggie May and Rhythm Of My Heart will ring through the arena. Tickets are $29 – $250.
