Wide Open Children’s Theatre is bringing back it’s hugely successful puppet show East. The performance sold out when it first hit the stage in 2004. The story follows Trey who travels across Saskatchewan to find his long-lost circus family. This is a show full of all the audience participation you’ve come to expect from Wide Open. Along the way they’ll meet a robot, the bearded lady and a strong man. Tickets are $10 – $15 and babies are free.

Haunting Woods          Friday

Broadway Theatre

Their sound is a brooding, rich and haunting one and now Saskatoon’s The Deep Dark Woods is back with a new album. Sit back and let Ryan Boldt’s voice wash you away. The band is in fine form after a five year hiatus. The Deep Dark Woods are heading out on the road in support of it’s latest work Yarrow which features supporting vocals by Saskatchewan duo Kacy & Clayton. You can see this celebrated Saskatoon act Friday night. Tickets are $31 and they will surely sell out.

Musical Homecoming       Friday

O’Brians Event Centre

Saskatoon’s hometown heros Wide Mouth Mason will be blowing the doors off O’Brians Event Centre this weekend and they’re doing it for a good cause. Sean Verrault, Safwan Javed and Gordie Johnson will be playing Rockin For The Noggin in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association. The show is an all ages event and I can’t think of a better way to introduce the kids to some Saskatoon rockers who had us all on our feet in the 90’s. Tickets are $40.

Persephone Theatre

Persephone Theatre opens its mainstage season with a world premiere of a new play. Quick Bright Things is the story of Nick a father who’s bringing his son, Gerome home to meet his birth mother. Gerome and everyone around him is still trying to figure out how to deal with his schizophrenia diagnosis. This is a story about family and mental illness. Tickets start at $23.

Branching Out        Saturday

TCU Place

It’s a band that’s straddled many musical genres and almost 30 years. The Mavericks are bringing their rockabilly, country and latin groove sensibilities to Saskatoon this weekend in support of its new album Brand New Day. The band made a triumphant return to the stage in 2012 after breaking up in 2004 and the reunion proved that fans just can’t get enough. Tickets are $52 – $62.

Celebrating Canada 150              Monday

TCU Place

The National Arts Centre Orchestra is teaming up with celebrated pianist Jan Lisiecki to mark Canada’s 150th birthday with a show dedicated to music and storytelling. Lisiecki will perform Schumann’s piano concerto as well as the New World Symphony. The National Arts Centre Orchestra will then take over with a performance of I Lost My Talk, a piece that will be accompanied by a film and live narration. Tickets are $30 – $50.
