It’s a story of power, rules and the struggle to belong and it serves up a strong examination of how we live here in Canada. Dominion is the first play by poet Andrea Ledding and Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre is bringing it to the stage for its world premiere. The story follows two couples Jack and Marie-Phillippe who’ve just moved into a new home. Tatawaw and Nimitaw are the previous owners and are locked in the bathroom. Through their story, the audience is able to examine the history of Canada and the reserve system. The play is a great mix of the serious and the ridiculous and it all ends with the question of reconciliation. Tickets are $15-$20.

Children’s Discovery Museum

Friday the 13th can be a little haunting but there’s still plenty of fun to be had with the little ones at the Children’s Discovery Museum at Market Mall. There will be a mummy wrap station and a chance to paint a face on pumpkins. This event also comes with a warning, “Watch out, or you may get slimed!”. This is the perfect event to try out that Halloween costume and start getting into the spirit! Admission is $3.75, infants are free. The fun runs from 10:00a.m. until 3:00p.m.

It’s a chance to remember Ziggy Stardust through his music. The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra is partnering with the vocalists from Jeans ‘n Classics to present Stardust – The Music of Bowie this weekend.  The musicians will take you on a trip through the music pioneer’s catalogue from Space Oddity to Ashes to Ashes, you’ll hear the songs that made this man a hero to so many. This show is a great night of pop classics and a fantastic way for someone new to try out a SSO show. Tickets are $53 – $73.

Persephone Theatre opens its mainstage season with a world premiere of a new play. Quick Bright Things is the story of Nick a father who’s bringing his son, Gerome home to meet his birth mother. Gerome and everyone around him is still trying to figure out how to deal with his schizophrenia diagnosis. This is a story about family and mental illness. Tickets start at $23.
