The Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival is underway in our city. This season offers two beloved tales from The Bard with a twist. Julius Caesar is hitting the stage with a modern day flare as Brutus, a politician on the rise, is torn between his hunger for power and his loyalty to Caesar. Much Ado About Nothing is a swashbuckling trip to the island of Messina where we meet Don Pedro and his band of pirates enjoying the spoils of their treasure trove until young Claudio falls in love with Hero, the daughter of Messina’s leader. These shows are a beloved tradition in Saskatoon and you can get tickets for $35 – $54.

Bubble Chase 5K

This isn’t your average fun run. Bubble Chase 5K is a run, walk and play through a sea of bubbles and it’s fun for the whole family. You can sign up for 2.5K or 5K and move through colourful bubble bogs. The entire party starting at 10am is set to music. Registration is $29 – $55. For all the details click here.

Also in Diefenbaker Park Saturday (1pm – 4pm) is a family fun day that includes games and crafts for the kids and a performance by the Amati Quartet. This event is free to the public. Registration is free right here.

Take a break from the heat this weekend and head to the Remai Modern for a screening of the Jack Black comedy Nacho Libre. It’s the story of Ignacio, a cook at a Mexican monastery that can’t afford to feed the orphans who live there. Inspired by a famous wrestler, he decides to compete for cash and save the day. Tickets are $10

What did you do on summer vacation? One group of students in our city got the chance to stage a blockbuster musical. Persephone Theatre School presents Hadestown: Teen Edition. This is a full-length adaptation of the Broadway hit Hadestown. The folk opera follows two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz. There are two shows each day. Tickets are $11.

Saskatoon Fringe Festival

It’s a choose-your-own-adventure in theatre at the Saskatoon Fringe. The 10-day festival features 26 productions from local, national and international artists…You’re sure to find one that tickles your fancy. There are shows for more mature audiences, family friendly performances and everything in between. A great way to plan your visit is by attending the Fringe Preview Night Wednesday July 29 at The Broadway Theatre. Each company will present a short teaser for their play. Tickets for this evening are $17. Along with the indoor stage shows, take in the games, craft making, busking performances, food trucks and beer gardens on the festival site in W.E. Graham Park. The artisan market will be back along 11th Street and Aug. 1 – 3 the party spills out onto Broadway Ave. as a part of Broadway Days. Single show tickets are $14 – $17 and you can get a 10-show pass for $150.
