Get ready to soar with Harry, Hermoine, Ron and musicians of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra as they perform Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets In Concert at TCU Place.  Conductor Andrew Bryan has taken up the baton for some of the world’s most successful touring stage musicals like Les Misérables, Chicago – The Musical, West Side Story and Evita but says, there’s an extra little spark with these live to film experiences. He was enchanted by the Harry Potter stories when he was a child and says bringing the films to life with a live orchestra is a thrill.

“We are getting to introduce these films to a whole new generation.”

“There are a relatively small number of conductors who conduct these live to film concerts, it’s a huge responsibility and a real honour,” says Bryan. “We are getting to introduce these films to a whole new generation. It’s also an opportunity to introduce the audience to a symphony performance with a score they may already know and love. It’s a way in.”

In this chapter we join Harry as a mysterious elf, Dobby, visits him to warn about trouble coming. As Harry, Hermoine, and Ron begin their second year at Hogwarts, a message on the wall announces that the legendary Chamber of Secrets has been opened. It’s a story full of flying cars, talking spiders, and all the witchcraft and wizardry we love in this series. The performance is being brought to the stage by TCU Place and CineConcerts which specializes in pairing orchestras with film screenings around the world. For those who aren’t familiar, the live in concert experience has the film projected from start to finish on a screen behind the orchestra while the musicians perform the score. All ages are welcome and audience members are invited to wear their favourite Potter-themed costumes.

“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets has the most music of any of the Harry Potter films. I’ve got 500 pages of music in my score alone,” says Bryan. “It’s exciting because of the teamwork involved between myself and the musicians. It takes a lot of preparation for us all – the musicians to learn their individual parts and for me to wrangle some 85 musicians to bring the film score to life – all while synching the live music to the film.”

These concerts are so popular, there are two concerts to choose from and tickets are going fast. Bryan says it’s an experience they will never forget.

“They will literally hear and see the music come to life,” says Bryan. “The energy and excitement keeps people coming back to see these concerts again and again.”
