Get ready to be teased by the beauty of burlesque. The Saskatoon International Burlesque Festival is back this weekend with four days of workshops and two nights of public performance. Frisky Friday and Sexy Saturday will feature performances by acts like Montreal’s Zyra Lee Vanity, Ballet School Dropouts from New Zealand and emcee Le Tabby Lexington along with other burlesque performers from around the world and right here at home. Tickets start at $35.

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra kicks off Season 94 with a special homecoming for guest conductor Tania Miller. Miller grew up in Foam Lake and trained at the University of Saskatchewan with many of the musicians she’ll share the stage to perform Elgar’s Enigma Variations. The performance will also feature guest pianist Sara Davis Buechner in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and the orchestra with Miachael Oesterle’s Home. Tickets are $56 – $100.

Comedy Festival Submission Show

Art Bar – 229 20th St. West

Dakota Ray Hebert, Dylan Jay Williamson and their partners are paving the way for up and coming artists in our city by creating a new venue. Art Bar, located on 20th Street, has two performance stages and a gallery ready to go and one of the first shows on the schedule is this weekend. The Comedy Festival Submission show will not only tickle the audiences’ funny bone, the show will also be recorded so local comics can use the video to apply to the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. The lineup for this show includes Eric Bzowy, Jenny Ryan and Lauchlan McWilliams.

Sonia Reid

The Bassment

Local artist and vocal coach Sonia Reid returns to the Bassment for a show that’s set to inspire. Reid and her four-piece band will bring gospel, R&B and soul tunes you’ll recognize to the stage in an evening of beautiful music. Tickets are $30 – $40.

 Sam Hunt

SaskTel Centre

American country superstar Sam Hunt is out on the road for his Locked Up tour and he’s making a stop in Saskatoon. Hunt got his start as a songwriter for artists like Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban before breaking out on his own with songs like Make You Miss Me and Leave the Light On. Hunt has taken home American Music Awards, CMT Music Awards and been nominated for Grammys. You can see him live along with opening artists Russell Dickerson and Dalton Dover. Tickets are $29 – $119.

Bruce McCulloch

Broadway Theatre

Canadian comedy legend Bruce McCulloch shot to fame in the 80s and 90s with The Kids in the Hall, he went on to write for Saturday Night Live and act and direct in movies and television series. All that work means a lot of fun stories. Now McCulloch is out on tour with his one-man show Tales of Bravery and Stupidity sharing his experiences. It’s one part stand-up, one part storytelling and tons of fun. Tickets are $33 – $43.

Native Gardens

Sept. 25 – Oct. 6

Persephone Theatre opens its 50th Anniversary season with a tale of neighbours. Native Gardens is a comedy that follows two sets of neighbours with very different ideas of what their backyards are for. Pablo and Tania have just moved into their home and want their yard seeded back to native plants whereas Frank and Virginia next door have a carefully manicured  flower beds. The tension leads to hose fights, midnight spy missions and a squabble or two over the fence. Tickets are $43 – $60.

Break Out West Festival

The Western Canadian Music Awards are making its debut in Saskatoon. Along with the awards show comes a three day music festival featuring some of Western Canada’s best musicians. Venues throughout the city will be filled with performances by acts like the Dump Babes from Saskatchewan, Boogey The Beat out of Manitoba, and The Naysayers from Yukon. With more than 50 acts to choose from, there’s a concert for every musical taste. Festival wristbands are $20.

Gabriel Iglesias

You know this comic from movies, TV, and his comedy specials on Netflix. Gabriel Iglesias is bringing his Don’t Worry Be Fluffy tour to Saskatoon with a collection of stories about his life, sound effects, and voice parodies that will entertain fans of all ages. Tickets are $89 – $150.

Do you love indie theatre? Look no further than downtown Saskatoon for Whirligig Theatre Collective’s latest production Final Notice. The play follows university tenants as they prepare to be evicted from their house after going on a rental strike. It’s their last hurrah in the house and they are going to party. There’s sex, drugs, queerness, and misunderstanding. Tickets are $19.
