Pride celebrations continue in our city this week. There are a ton of events to take in including several dance parties, Pride Bingo (Thurs.), the 2 Spirit Powwow, (Fri.) the Summer Solstice Spectacular featuring drag artist Rita Banga (Fri.), and, it all winds up with the big parade Saturday. The parade ends with a big party in Friendship Park with plenty of music and activities for the whole family.Some events are ticketed and others, completely free.

Simon Kempston

The Bassment

If you’re a fan of acoustic guitar, head to The Bassment for Scottish singer-songwriter Simon Kempston. He’s toured the world with his guitar entertaining crowds with his intricate fingerstyle playing and beautiful voice. It’s Kempston’s first time in our fair city so let’s give him a warm welcome. Tickets are $25 – $35. Other shows this weekend feature acts like Wilma & the Fine Young Fossils (Fri.), Martin Janovski (Sat.), and A Bottle of Win & Patsy Cline (Sun.).

Rock Your Roots

Friday – 10am

Victoria Park

The community will come together to show its commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in the Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation. The crowd will be led by dignitaries, knowledge keepers, residential school survivors and Indigenous leaders along the route along the riverbank. The walk will end in Victoria Park where there will be a brief program and activities hosted by the Saskatoon Indian Métis Friendship Centre. There will also be a free lunch in the park after the walk.

National Indigenous Peoples Day

Wanuskewin Heritage Park

The first official day of summer is also being marked by a full-day celebration of the vibrant culture of our province’s Indigenous people at Wanuskewin. There will be traditional games, powwow dancing, music, and many activities, tours and presentations that explore it all. The celebration kicks off at 9:45a.m. and runs right until 4:00p.m..

The Music Man

Have a root tootin’ good time with Saskatoon Summer Players as the company caps off it’s 60th anniversary season with the musical theatre classic The Music Man. The story follows a community as a fast-talking travelling salesman Harold Hill comes to town. He cons the community into buying instruments and uniforms for a band he promises to organize… That is until his plans to skip town with the cash are derailed by love. This show is a blockbuster with a huge cast of volunteers ready to put on a show for you. Tickets are $29 – $38.

Capitol Music Club

If you’re looking for a laugh this weekend, head to the Capitol for B.C.’s own Dan Duvall. The comedian was named one of the rising stars on the scene in Victoria and has performed at Just For Laughs Northwest and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. He’s opened for some of Canada’s comedy stars like Brent Butt, Shawn Majumder, and Bruce McCulloch. Duvall will share the stage with Alberta comedian Ben Bauce. Tickets are $28.

Clint Black

Country music star Clint Black is out on the road and making a stop in Saskatoon with his Killin’ Time – The 35th Anniversary World Tour. The album, with hits like Killin’ Time and A Better Man was named one of the most important in country music history by Rolling Stone and he’ll play it from start to finish. This is a man who has staying power with four decades of music making under his belt. Black welcomes Canadian country music star Carolyn Dawn Johnson to the stage as well for this performance. Tickets are $81 – $105.

Ziggy Alberts

Australian folk-pop singer Ziggy Alberts is out on his New Love world tour and is making a stop in Saskatoon. Alberts started his career as a busker in his home country in 2011 and has recording and touring ever since. He’s also a poet having just released his second collection sun memos. Tickets are $61.
