The pops choir, led by Streetnix alumnus BJ Harris has it’s spring concerts all lined up for you . this is a mix of standards and pop tunes backed by a band, all in six-part harmony. Saskatoon’s Sum Theatre is back with a brand new musical adventure for families. The Reel Whirled takes the audience into the online world as a trio of friends set out on a quest to get the attention of their favourite influencer. There’s music, giant puppetry and tons of audience participation. The performance is free, you just bring a lawnchair or blanket and enjoy the show. The tour will start in Saskatoon till mid-June and then heads out for dates across the province.

Wilfred Buck

Roxy Theatre                  

A new documentary takes you on a time-travelling road trip for the story of Wilfred Buck or the Star Man. It follows Buck on a mission to share the elder’s knowledge of Cree astronomy with the world. Along the way we learn about Buck’s past growing up in 1960s Northern Manitoba. It’s a story of racism, displacement, wisdom and reconnection. The film was featured at the 2024 Hot Docs festival and is only being shown in a handful of theatres and Saskatoon’s lucky to be one of them. Tickets are $14 – $20.

Milestone Anniversary at the Cap

Capitol Music Club

One of Saskatoon’s hottest live music venues, the Capitol Music Club celebrates a decade of bringing incredible live acts to the stage. This weekend, you can see Juno Award winner singer songwriter Dan Mangan (Fri) with tunes from his latest album Being Somewhere, celebrated rapper and broadcaster Shad will take the stage (Sat), and Saskatoon music scene alumni Wide Mouth Mason are back in their hometown a pair of dates next weekend (May 24 & 25). Tickets range between $17 – $72.

Bassment Bops

The Bassment

It’s a mix of old faves and fresh new tunes at The Bassment this month. They’ve just come back from a string of dates in Europe and now Saskatoon’s surf rockers The Garrys are back for a pair of shows. This band is just blowing up you can see them this Fri and Sat night. The following weekend, Saskatoon blues legend BC Read is bringing his buddies together for a celebration of 70s rock with a tribute to the music of Crosby Stills Nash & Young. (May 24 & 25). $25 – $35.

Musical Moments & Laughs

TCU Place

Couple of cool shows at TCU Place that are just a sample of action in the theatre. The Fireside Singers return with A Broadway Spectacular Wednesday and Thursday. Saturday night Rick Mercer and Jann Arden are on stage for Will They or Won’t They tour. Their friendship began doing crazy stuff on the Mercer Report and they have plenty of stories to tell. The following weekend Queen It’s a Kind of Magic hits the stage. It’s a tribute act featuring some of the bands greatest hits. Tickets range between $66 – $120 depending on the show.

Contemplative Arts Festival

The festival that celebrates visual art, music, story, meditation and more is back in the city for another year. The Contemplative Arts Festival of Saskatoon invites us to open our mind, body, and spirit to all the possibilities of creative expression. Highlights this year include performances by the artist in residence singer-songwriter Coco Love Alcorn, as well as Saskatchewan’s Poet-Laureate Dee Hobsbawn-Smith, actor Kent Allen, and folk singer Paddy Tutty. There will be workshops in a variety of mediums, opportunities to meditate, a labyrinth walk and much more. Events are Free – $33.28

Torch Songs

It’s an unlikely story of a Canadian superstar choosing our city’s orchestra as the place to record her dream album. Julie Nesrallah teamed up in 2022 with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra to record Too Good To Talk About and next weekend, the singer will join orchestra musicians to give a sneak peek of the this mix of jazz and cabaret tunes before it’s release later this summer. Tickets are $45 – $50.

Dark Bridges Film Festival

If you’re looking for something to get your heart racing, why not close out the month with the Dark Bridges Film Festival. Four days of new and classic horror movies that will have you shrieking with delight. The movies come from all over the world like  the creature feature Sting from Australia and from right here at home with Saskatoon’s Abhorrent.
