After years of being ogled, poked, and prodded, Blanche’s breasts Boobar and Boobell have had enough and they decide to leave her body… Literally. That’s the premise of Madeleine Blais-Dahlem’s new play The Art of French Cooking. 25th Street Theatre is presenting this Alice In Wonderland fantasy of self-discovery and it definitely pushes the boundaries of what we’re used to seeing on the stage. There is video projections, wild costumes and outrageous behaviour in a tale that will leave you examining what it means to be a woman. Tickets are $16 – $26.

There’s no doubt it has been a pretty sweet year so far for Saskatoon songstress Katie Tupper. She’s still riding high from all the attention and airtime at the 2024 Juno Awards and riding high on the CBC Music Top 20 charts for many weeks with her single How Can I Get Your Love. You can have a chance to see Tupper live and kick off the 10th anniversary celebrations at the Capitol Music Club. Tickets are $28 – $44. Other anniversary shows this week include Close Talker (Friday), Chali 2na & DJ Shub (Saturday), Yukon Blonde (Tuesday) and comedian Kelly Taylor (Wednesday).

Conductor Judith Yan takes the podium to lead the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, guest soloists Avery Lafrentz, Julie Nesrallah, Ian Cleary, Adam Lau, and a chorus of eight choirs from all over Saskatchewan to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Don’t recognize this piece? I bet you do! If you grew up taking music lessons, guaranteed you played Ode To Joy, the symphony’s climactic celebration. This is going to be a blockbuster concert to close out the mainstage performances for 2023/24. Tickets are $69 – $96.

If you’re a fan of movies, television, pop culture, and comic books, you’re going to want to head down to Prairieland Park this weekend for the Saskatoon Entertainment Expo. This is two days filled with cosplay, artists and celebrities. This year’s slate of guests include voice actors Jeff Fischer and Rachael MacFarlane, Superman himself, Brandon Routh, and, the hero of The Princess Bride’s Cary Elwes. Get all dressed up in your best superhero gear and go. Tickets are $14 – $32 and there are multi-day passes at a discount.

Whether you’re a mom or not, one thing is certain… Farideh is going to make you laugh. The musician, comedian and viral video dominatrix writes hilarious songs about real life as she sees it. The tour stops in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina, Halifax and Moose Jaw. It’s one part concert, one part stand-up comedy show and Farideh’s bringing along some friends to keep the party going.  For Saskatoon’s performance, Farideh will welcome Dakota Ray Hebert and Connor Shram. Tickets are $30.

Greensleep A Fairytale for the End of Days

It’s a play that starts at the end of the world. Dancing Sky Theatre is set for the premiere of Kelley Jo Burke’s Greensleep A Fairytale for the End of Days. It’s a story that takes a hard look at humans’ place in the world and takes our preconceptions about climate change and turns them upside down. There’s no saving the world, this show is about a new beginning as Huck and Anna try to make a new life. Tickets are $20 – $35 and you have the option to add brunch or dinner to the performance for $40.

They say “It takes a village to raise a child” and now we can add it takes three theatre companies to make a ground-breaking adaptation of Shakespeare. La Troupe du Jour, Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre, and Never Never Shakespeare have joined forces to create a production of Lear. The tale of King Lear about an aging king monarch forced to divide his kingdom up between his two daughters who flatter him and banish the third daughter who actually loves him. What makes this performance fresh is that it will be trilingual, and the actors bounce back and forth between English, French, and Cree…Don’t worry there’s subtitles. Tickets are $15 – $30.
