One of Canada’s favourite Alternative Folk-Rock bands Shred Kelly is back out on the road and making a stop in our city. The band is out on tour in support of its album Blurry Vision. Shred Kelly have toured all over the world and they are a festival favourite. They’ll be joined on stage by Saskatchewan favourite Megan Nash. Tickets are $21.

Greensleep A Fairytale for the End of Days

It’s a play that starts at the end of the world. Dancing Sky Theatre is set for the premiere of Kelley Jo Burke’s Greensleep A Fairytale for the End of Days. It’s a story that takes a hard look at humans’ place in the world and takes our preconceptions about climate change and turns them upside down. There’s no saving the world, this show is about a new beginning as Huck and Anna try to make a new life. Tickets are $20 – $35 and you have the option to add brunch or dinner to the performance for $40.

They say “It takes a village to raise a child” and now we can add it takes three theatre companies to make a ground-breaking adaptation of Shakespeare. La Troupe du Jour, Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre, and Never Never Shakespeare have joined forces to create a production of Lear. The tale of King Lear about an aging king monarch forced to divide his kingdom up between his two daughters who flatter him and banish the third daughter who actually loves him. What makes this performance fresh is that it will be trilingual, and the actors bounce back and forth between English, French, and Cree…Don’t worry there’s subtitles. Tickets are $15 – $30.

Fans of Bahamas aka Afie Jurvanen is going country. The Canadian singer/songwriter is out on the road promoting his new album Bootcut. This is an album he recorded in Nashville. Even though he still lives in Canada, Rolling Stone Magazine called this album “Nashville’s most country album of the year. Bahamas is a fan favourite here in Saskatoon. We just can’t get enough of his sweet storytelling and incredible harmonies. Tickets are $67.

Live Five’s +1 show for it’s 20^th season is a odd and entertaining one. Bat Brains comes from the mind of Sam Kruger and it was a hit with audiences on the Fringe circuit a couple of years ago. It’s an exploration of mental illness using vampires. Characterized as part Dracula, part Mr. Bean, part Pee-Wee’s Playhouse gone wrong. Kruger taps into their own personal experience to create a story about Scud a vampire who is afraid of his own thoughts. He hides from the world spending most of his time in bathrooms. This show uses mime, clowning and dance to tell the story. Tickets are $25 – $30.

The Little Mermaid

Take a trip Under the Sea with Ariel, Flounder and friends for this live stage version of the beloved Disney classic The Little Mermaid. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, the show follows Ariel as she falls in love with Prince Eric and searches for the place she belongs. I was lucky enough to chaperone a school trip to this show and the costumes, the set, the musical talent, it’s absolutely wonderful. Grab the family and go to this joyful musical production full of colourful friends as Persephone closes out its season. Tickets are $47 – $60.

The Art of French Cooking

After years of being ogled, poked, and prodded, Blanche’s breasts Boobar and Boobell have had enough and they decide to leave her body… Literally. That’s the premise of Madeleine Blais-Dahlem’s new play The Art of French Cooking. 25th Street Theatre is presenting this Alice In Wonderland fantasy of self-discovery and it definitely pushes the boundaries of what we’re used to seeing on the stage. There is video projections, wild costumes and outrageous behaviour in a tale that will leave you examining what it means to be a woman. Tickets are $16 – $26.
