Take a trip Under the Sea with Ariel, Flounder and friends for this live stage version of the beloved Disney classic The Little Mermaid. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, the show follows Ariel as she falls in love with Prince Eric and searches for the place she belongs. I was lucky enough to chaperone a school trip to this show and the costumes, the set, the musical talent, it’s absolutely wonderful. Grab the family and go to this joyful musical production full of colourful friends as Persephone closes out its season. Tickets are $47 – $60.

We Love the 90’s

As a child of the 90’s myself, I just can’t resist this celebration by the Saskatoon Soaps. Get out your chokers, brush off your Doc Martens and head down to the Broadway Theatre for a grunge-filled evening of laughs and retro (do we call the 90s retro now?) references. You yell out the suggestions and these comedians take it from there. You never know what’s going to happen but you know it’s going to be hilarious. Tickets are $15.

When you hear the term diva what comes to mind? For the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra it means women who go out and give it their all on stage. The SSO will welcome vocalists like Sonia Reid, Falynn Baptiste and Elyse Evangelista, for a performance of pop, rock, blues and jazz voices. The performance is a celebration of our city’s finest. Live Five’s +1 show for it’s 20^th season is a odd and entertaining one. Bat Brains comes from the mind of Sam Kruger and it was a hit with audiences on the Fringe circuit a couple of years ago. It’s an exploration of mental illness using vampires. Characterized as part Dracula, part Mr. Bean, part Pee-Wee’s Playhouse gone wrong. Kruger taps into their own personal experience to create a story about Scud a vampire who is afraid of his own thoughts. He hides from the world spending most of his time in bathrooms. This show uses mime, clowning and dance to tell the story. Tickets are $25 – $30.

There’s no denying after seven decades in music, the music of Van Morrison is legendary and has inspired countless musician that have heard his voice including Saskatoon’s Darcy Greig. Tunes like Brown Eyed Girl, Days Like This, and Moondance are staples in the singer/songwriter playlist. Saskatoon’s Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue will take to the stage with Greig for an evening full of hits. Tickets are $30 – $40.

With seven studio albums in his catalogue, the singer, songwriter has criss-crossed the globe sharing his musical romance with the audience. He’s out on the road for the Canadian leg of his tour. Champagne has been called the greatest guitarist of his generation and you can see him live at The Bassment. Tickets are $27 – $37.

It’s a play that starts at the end of the world. Dancing Sky Theatre is set for the premiere of Kelley Jo Burke’s Greensleep A Fairytale for the End of Days. It’s a story that takes a hard look at humans’ place in the world and takes our preconceptions about climate change and turns them upside down. There’s no saving the world, this show is about a new beginning as Huck and Anna try to make a new life. Tickets are $20 – $35 and you have the option to add brunch or dinner to the performance for $40.
