Museum of the Moon
Sept. 18 – 23
St. John’s Cathedral
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra has a lunar event beginning this weekend that you don’t want to miss. It has brought Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon to the city. Much like the red ball that toured our city earlier this summer, the Museum of the Moon is a 7ft in diameter sculpture of the moon that is lit up from the inside with actual NASA imagery of the moon. It will be suspended from the rafters of St. John’s Cathedral over the orchestra as they perform Max Richter’s Recomposed Four Seasons, a reimagining of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons featuring guest conductor Judith Yan and featured performances by Véronique Mathieu & Erin Brophey. You will be surrounded by art for this performance as underfoot will be Vicissitude by Saskatoon artist Monique Martin and Alexandra Hedberg of Sweden. The in-person performances are sold out but you can still see the show online each evening. Then, Monday – Saturday there will be public viewings of the art combined with community activities nightly 7:00p.m. – 11:00p.m. so everyone can bask in the moon’s glow. Tune into the livestream for $25 and if you’re attending the public viewings Sept. 18 – 23, that admission is by donation.
