Travel around the world in an evening at Folkfest in Saskatoon. The annual cultural festival features 17 pavilions this year with music, dance, and of course food. Your ePassport will get you on the Folkfest busses, each staffed with a tour guide to help you travel between pavilions. New this year is the Iranian Pavilion as well as tried-and-true favourites like the German, Philippine, Ukrainian, and Scottish pavilions. It’s an event that brings our whole community together. You can buy your ePassport for $16.50.

Jann Arden

She’s a Canadian icon. Jann Arden burst onto our country’s music scene in the early 90s and she’s never really left. She’s had hit after hit with songs like Insensitive, Could I Be Your Girl and Good Mother and has continued to make waves with her music and her comedy on her self-titled sitcom Jann. Arden is known for her live performances and incredible storytelling in between songs. Canadian duo Whitehorse will open the show. Tickets are $70.

Saskatoon’s classic rock festival is back for another year. Sing along to all the hits from acts like Tom Cochrane, Chilliwack, The Crash Test Dummies and Gowan. Tickets are officially sold out for Friday and Saturday but there are still some available for Sunday. If your heart is set on one of the sold-out nights, check social media, plans change and you just might get lucky. Single day passes are $85.

Bandoliiers & Pocket Watch

Coors Event Centre   

This Saskatoon band describes its sound as “caffeinated rock ‘n’ roll mixed with a bite of southern comfort. The Bandoliiers are taking the stage at Coors Event Centre and this three-piece will be joined by country blues duet Kaye & Cubbon and jazz fusion band Pocket Watch. Tickets are $18.

He’s sold more than 250 million records world-wide and spanned the genres of music like no other. Sir. Rod Stewart has been entertaining the masses for more than 50 years and been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Now you can see this legend in person singing all the hits. Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? well Tonight’s the Night with Rod Stewart. Tickets run between $47 – $200+.

Saskatoon Summer Proms

St. John’s Cathedral   

Saskatoon Opera every Wednesday in August celebration of Vocal arts. Next Wednesday night, Saskatoon vocalist Kelsey Ronn and pianist Naomi Suchan will perform La vita é bella. This performance will also be livestreamed on YouTube. Admission is free with donations being accepted at the door.

Music For the Gut

If you like pop and rock hits performed by some of the best vocalists and musicians our city has to offer, you’re in luck. Music for the Gut is back! The performances were started by the Hughton family. Each year the show raises money for Crohn’s & Colitis research and to date has raised $183,000 for the cause. This performance boasts 75 voices in solo performance as well as large and small groups. Guest artists this year include the River City School of Irish Dance, saxophonist Gerard Weber, violinist William Boan, guitarist Graham Pritchard and singer-songwriter Graham Tilsley. Tickets are $27 – $38.

WEGO

Remai Modern          

It’s a celebration of art, music, and dance and it’s happening in and around the Remai Modern. WEGO is back and the one-day festival will feature performances by acts like The Garrys, Donny Parenteau and children’s performer Al Simmons. There will also be demonstrations by Fly Studios YXE, workshops in dance and puppet making, a chance to dive into the Persephone Theatre tickle trunk and dress up in its costumes, and a ton more fun. This event is free.
