The Bard is coming back to the banks of the South Saskatchewan with two main stage shows, a third, contemporary play and the Players’ Series for its 2023 season. Artistic director Kayvon Khoshakam will be bringing contemporary influences to the tragedy Romeo and Juliet (Until August 20). As You Like It (Until August 19) will be getting a modern remake and The Dark Lady (Until July 23) is a new play that reimagines Shakespeare’s relationship to the muse of his sonnets Emilia Bassano. Tickets for the mainstage, Romeo and Juliet and As You Like It are $20 – $40. For The Dark Lady, it’s a pay-what-you-can format $15 – $25.

East meets west in this show. Gogol Bordello is a punk folk band from New York City made up of musicians from all over the world. The band has reached cult status thanks to a documentary Scream of My Blood that follows Eugene Hütz, the charismatic leader of the group as he deals with life as an immigrant and loyalty to his homeland of Ukraine. Touring in support of its 2022 release Solidaritine, this show will be an evening mashup of punk, ska & gypsy swing. Tickets are $58.

It’s time to head Back to Batoche. The annual festival celebrating Métis heritage has been running for more than 50 years and there’s a reason the party is still going strong. Just an hour drive north of Saskatoon, this year’s celebration features the inaugural John Arcand fiddle showcase, a rodeo, the Voyageur Games, activities for the kids and plenty of tasty treats.
