Come From Away is the Tony nominated musical about how small town Newfoundland welcomed 7,000 passengers stranded after 9/11. Sask. Jewish Arts Festival

A brand new festival kicked off in Saskatoon last night with a dance party and there are many incredible events to come. The Saskatchewan Jewish Arts Festival celebrates the cultures music, theatre and visual art. Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story has been up and running for a week at Persephone Theatre, the story of two Romanian Jewish immigrants who arrive in Canada has been getting incredible reviews and you can see the show until Sunday. Don’t miss the celebration of visual art at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada and the Jewish Film night at The Broadway Theatre. Ari Posner and Jardena Gertler-Jaffe will fill the synagogue with the sound of Jewish prayer Friday night in a traditional Shabbat service. Sunday afternoon, the musicians will be joined by the star of Old Stock, Ben Caplan to discuss the relationship between music and prayer. There are free tickets for Old Stock: A Refugee Love Story available based on financial need and the rest of the events are absolutely free.

Nosferatu

It’s one of the first horror films ever made and this year, the silent film Nosferatu turns 100. Just in time for Halloween, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra will perform the sound track live to a screening of the bone chilling vampire tale. It’s part of a Saskatchewan tour that will travel to Lloydminster, North Battleford, Melfort and our fair city. There are two shows Saturday to choose from and tickets are $28 – $35.

The Refinery
The retelling of the children’s story of Henny Penny and Chicken Little by Wide Open Children’s Theatre will delight. The friendly fowl are on a mission to find out why the sky is falling and who will help them bake that infamous bread. This original take on the story by Crispi Lord will be full of music and audience participation as the hand puppets, shadow puppets and live actors tell the story. All ages are welcome and tickets are $12 – $17 with an online viewing option for $10)

Arkells – Barn Burner

Capitol Music Club
It didn’t take long for this surprise show to sell out. Arkells tickets went on sale Monday at 11am and in 15 minutes it was sold out. The group is out on its Blink Twice tour and between its Winnipeg and Grande Prairie gigs decided to make a quick stop here in Saskatoon. This is an incredible chance to see them in a small venue. Don’t be discouraged, plans change and you never know when you could get lucky and find someone looking to sell theirs online. Tickets are $30 each.

Market Mall – Parkade
It’s a frightfully good time for all ages. The parkade at Market Mall has been transformed into a ghouls paradise. Wander along the path and see monsters, skeletons, spiders and more. There’s a friendlier version 1:00p.m. – 6:00p.m. for the young ones. Staff check with the parents to see how much of a fright you would like. Then in the evenings the horror increases 6:00p.m. – 10:00p.m.. For those really wanting a good jolt, there’s the Late Night X-treme Scare is a midnight tour you won’t forget. Tickets will run you $12 – $50.

Boo Town Ball

Western Development Museum
Halloween fun for the whole family. Get your costumes on and head down to the Western Development Museum for a dance, games, magic show and tons of activities. There’s also the Spooky Stroll Halloween Weekend (Friday – Monday) where you can wander through BooTown and find 13 ghost babies. There will be treats for the kids. Tickets for the BooTown Ball are $6 – $13 and $29 for a family pass.

The SSO has plenty of tricks and treats at this family-friendly Halloween Party. Sing along to many favourites like Thriller and Monster Mash. The kids will be excited to hear songs from the Harry Potter soundtrack and, there will be a special guest appearance by Iona Whipp to get the crowd going. Have a little fun, get a little extra time in your costume and enjoy a fantastic evening of music. Tickets for this performance are $64 – $87.
