As the celebrations come to a close for the University of Saskatchewan Drama Department, there’s a performance that will resonate deeply that you can take in online. Directed by UofS alumni Skye Brandon, Kevin Kerr’s Unity (1918) is a play based in Saskatchewan during the Spanish Flu pandemic. It happens in Unity, Saskatchewan a small, isolated community that is trying to stop the illness from reaching it. They close the rail lines, burn the mail and do everything they can to save the towns people. This isolation however, leads to mistrust and neighbour turning against neighbour. Tickets are $10 – $20.

You still have a few more events to celebrate Pride Month in Saskatoon. Still Here, Still Queer events are running until Sunday. Thursday night, artists take to the stage for Out in the Open, a virtual performance at Persephone Theatre. Artists including Kristel Harder, Mitchell Larsen and Jenna Berenbaum will share dance, drag, poetry and storytelling all in this free show. Friday it’s time to head to the drive at Spiffy Carwash for an outdoor screening of Hairspray. Tickets are $20. Saturday at 1:00p.m. things wrap up with the online pride parade and then the Gurls Virtual Dance Party that evening.

NEW AT THE REMAI MODERN         

The Remai Modern is digging back into its Picasso collection for a new exhibit A Formative Encounter that opens this weekend. This is Picasso’s art created in response to non-European works, specifically African and Oceaninc Artists. Sunday, the gallery is hosting an outdoor birch bark basket workshop. You can create your own work of art under artist Lyndon J. Linklater. Tickets for that workshop are $30-$35 and there are two sessions to choose from.

MOZART REIMAGINED

They are reinventing opera, one dance step at a time. Saskatoon Opera and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra have teamed up with Free Flow Dance Company to present Mozart Reimagined. This is a streaming performance that combines the famous composers original material with the works of four Saskatchewan composers in a performance that has very theatrical elements. Featuring vocal performances by Olivia Guselle, Kelsey Ronn, Emma Johnson, dance by Kyle Syverson backed up by the SSO it’s going to be a spectacle.The plot is based around letters that Mozart wrote to the women in his life; his wife, sister and sister-in-law. It’s a tale of betrayal, jealousy, romance and passion. Tickets are $25.
