Bach & Khayyam with Constantinople

Music is the thing that connects us all and for Montreal-based ensemble Constantinople, it’s what connects the life of John-Sebastien Bach and Omar Khayyam. The composer and poet were from different time and place but their work is a perfect match. This show blends the music of Bach with Khayyam’s poetry in a conversation right on stage. This concert is presented in partnership with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $42 – $49.

The Watch List

BackStage Stage – Remai Arts Centre

25th Street Theatre is premiering a brand-new Canadian play that delves into some pretty timely topics. Rachel Aberle’s The Watch List is a story of parents eager for the visit of their son and his new girlfriend. They’re all set for a birthday celebration when revelations come to light that could tear the family apart. This is a show that deals with social politics, generational divides, and consent. The Romeo Initiative

Persephone Theatre

Is there such a thing as the “perfect man”? Persephone Theatre is hitting the stage with The Romeo Initiative. It’s a show about the search for love in Cold War Germany where single men are hard to come by and Karin has just met Markus…Is it fate…Or something else? This show is part comedy, part spy thriller, tickets are $47 – $57.

Cantate Pour Legumes

Thurs. – Feb. 15

Studio 914

La Troupe du Jour’s celebrating its 40th anniversary with a lyrical, musical play by Saskatoon’s own Madeleine Blais-Dahlem hitting the stage this week. Cantate Pour Légumes follows four seniors or “vegetables” as they cheekily call themselves who are bored at the seniors’ home and decide to go on a pilgrimage. It’s a reflection on life, aging, memory, and freedom. The show will be in French with English surtitles and  artist talkbacks after the shows are scheduled for Sunday and Feb. 14th. Tickets are $15 – $30, children 6 and under are $8.

The puppet wranglers at Wide Open Children’s Theatre have a show ready for you over the next two weekends. Let’s be honest, we’re all looking for something to do with the little ones during the Family Day long weekend. Gimme Grimm: The Happy Prince is a mashup of classic fairy tales, clever heroes, and playful puppets. This show is geared for the little ones but honestly, anytime I’ve gone with my kids, I’ve laughed and played along as well.  Tickets are $12 – $17.

He’s a club favourite and this weekend New York comedian Mike Dambra is on the Saskatoon stage. Dambra has been a staple of the comedy scene since the 80s and he’s toured with the likes of Rosie O’Donnell and Adam Sandler. Tickets start at $30.

Get ready for a journey through the seasons with the Volya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble. Korinnya is a dance performance is an exploration of culture, beliefs, symbols and stories of Ukraine. Volya is joined by Saskatoon’s Lastiwka Ukrainian Choir for this show. Tickets are $53.

Sask. Indigenous Storytelling Month

Wintertime is a sacred time for Indigenous communities, where knowledge about people and lived experience are traditionally shared. The Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples have a calendar full of events to celebrate Saskatchewan Indigenous Storytelling Month. From oral storytelling to dance performances, film screenings to artist workshops you can do it all. The events are free to the public.

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra has a Valentine’s Day concert that will have you swooning. Piano virtuoso Angela Cheng joins conductor Judith Yan to perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor. The entire program is filled with recognizable and romantic melodies like Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet. Tickets are $50 – $103.
