The Wives. The Concubines. The Ritual.

Now – Sun.

The Refinery

Live Five Independent Theatre is kicking off 2026 with a story that takes you back to ancient times with Peace Akintade’s The Wives. The Concubines. The Ritual. is a reimagining of the biblical story of King Solomon’s three hundred concubines left behind during his extended campaign. The tale focuses on the women as they band together to overthrow their oppressive lives using Lilith’s ritual, creating a sanctuary of freedom and desire. What if the biblical story of idolatry became a reclamation of love and identity? On Saturday, the company will celebrate Black (and Brown) Night Out, a celebration of Black stories, artists and audience members. Tickets are $27 – $32. There are other Sip & Skate evenings to choose from, Jan. 31, Feb. 13, 14, and 28.

Colosseum presents a special screening of the 1989 classic comedy Uncle Buck. Join John Candy’s beloved character as the consummate bachelor tries to wrangle the three kids who unexpectedly end up in his care. This is Macaulay Culkin at his cutest as he interrogates his uncle for his life choices (my favourite scene by far). Tickets are $15.
