Live Five Independent Theatre is kicking off 2026 with a story that takes you back to ancient times with Peace Akintade’s The Wives. The Concubines. The Ritual. is a reimagining of the biblical story of King Solomon’s three hundred concubines left behind during his extended campaign. The tale focuses on the women as they band together to overthrow their oppressive lives using Lilith’s ritual, creating a sanctuary of freedom and desire. What if the biblical story of idolatry became a reclamation of love and identity? The artists have organized two special performances Saturday is Queer Night Out, celebrating the play and our local queer community. January 17th the company will celebrate Black (and Brown) Night Out, a celebration of Black stories, artists and audience members. Thursday night’s performance is Pay-what-you-can and regular priced tickets are $27 – $32.

Forget about student loans, a local woman is taking matters into her own hands. Selena Alexander has called on local comedians Cheyenna Sapp, Eric Bzowy, Shawn Bourassa, and Afrin Sarca to perform at a special show to raise money her tuition so she can attend school to become a mortician. As the tagline says, “She’s dead serious about tuition!” Tickets are $52.

There’s plenty to celebrate in 2026 for Michelle Lee-Klassen. The Saskatoon singer songwriter is releasing her solo EP this weekend. You may recognize Lee-Klassen as the saxophonist for Skaravan and now she’s stepping into the spotlight with her solo work. Lee-Klassen says her new music is like a mixtape. The collection of songs explore pop, folk, and Neo-soul. Julie Ella & the Umbrellas will also perform. Tickets are $25 – $35.
