Is it even Christmas without the sound of children singing? The Noon Festival of Carols is a more than 50-year tradition at TCU Place. Children’s choirs from around Saskatoon will perform over the lunch hour for you. Bring your lunch and enjoy the holiday season with the kids. Admission is FREE.

A Christmas Story

Remai Arts Centre
A family classic is on the program for Persephone Theatre’s holiday show. A Christmas Story is the tale of Ralphie, boy whose hearts desire is a shiny new Red Ryder BB gun under the tree. He has to navigate a neighbourhood bully, his teacher, his absent-minded dad, and a mall Santa to do it. The play is an adaptation of the 1983 family film favourite with a huge cast including 14 local children in the cast. Demand has been so brisk the show was held over until Dec. 26th. Tickets are $57 – $71.

Franken-Panto

Dancing Sky Theatre – Meacham
Get ready for a brand new Christmas story with a spooky twist. The team at Dancing Sky Theatre is back on stage with a hilarious panto mash-up of Frankenstein and The Gingerbread Man. The story follows Frank N. Stein a baker with one goal in mind, to make the ultimate cookie to please all but his plan goes sideways when that cookie comes to life. This is a comedy that blends story with music and puppets into a show for the whole family. Meacham is just a short drive down Highway #5. Tickets are $20 – $40 and select shows you can add a meal on before for $45.

Christmas Classics at the Cathedral

St. John’s Cathedral
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra has several musical gifts waiting for you under the tree. Saskatoon’s longest-running tradition Handel’s Messiah featuring the orchestra, featured soloists, and the SSO chorus will be held in the evening of Dec. 12 and then the next afternoon it’s your chance to get in on the merry music making with Sing-Along Messiah. Then on Dec. 21st, the SSO will perform classical Christmas classics at St. John’s Cathedral. Tickets for Messiah are $55 – $64, Sing-Along Messiah $25, and Christmas Classics at the Cathedral are $45 – $50.

Why not check out a holiday cabaret for a good cause? Burnt Thicket Theatre is staging Get up! For Christmas Presence is a variety show filled with music, dance, puppets and storytelling. This is a wonderful showcase of our local artists. Admission is by donation.

Elieen Laverty is fresh off her performance last weekend with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra YXE Divas and she has a new holiday performance ready for you called Angels in the Snow: A Magical Christmas. The Irish-Canadian singer-songwriter has performed all over the world and this show will include original tunes and traditional favourites, plenty to get you in the holiday spirit. Tickets are $42.

Prince Albert’s own Kelly Taylor is back in our city for a string of shows. Taylor has performed all over Canada and the U.S. performing for corporate events and sports groups. Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre is trying out a new holiday tradition with the help of a few talented friends. Saskatchewan fiddler Donny Parenteau will join the cast as they celebrate the end of the year with a mix of music, dance, and sketch comedy. Tickets are $17 – $23.

Looking for a fun night out with your co-workers or the family? Saskatoon Soaps Improv Comedy has a holiday show with a Die Hard twist. They’ll be screaming “Yippee-ki-yay” in the theatre as the actors take audience suggestions to create a show that will leave you laughing. Tickets are $16 all the proceeds will go to Haven Kids House for this performance.

Saskatoon’s Fireside Singers are back for another year of Christmas Memories. The annual tradition for the choir under the direction of Marilyn Whitehead has been around for more than 50 years. Several guest artists will be sharing the stage with the 100+ chorus members including Kerry DuWors, Guy Few, and Allen Harrington. There will be dancers, soloists and a huge, beautiful sound at this show. Tickets are $67.

It’s the time of year when we haul out our favourite childhood films and watch them with friends and family. The Broadway Theatre has a great lineup sure to get you into a festive mood including The Muppets Christmas Carol and Die Hard (Drunken Cinema 19+) are Dec. 20, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (Dec. 21) and Elf (Dec. 23). Prairieland Park
Light up your Christmas with Glow Saskatoon. Make sure you bring your camera and the whole family to the indoor holiday light festival. As you wander through the light display, the kids can take a ride on the train, run around lookinf for clues in the annual scavenger hunt, and enjoy the playground all lit up for the season. There will be visits with Santa, appearances by the Disney princesses and plenty of local music featured on the entertainment stage. Tickets are $15 – $25 with group rates available.

BHP Enchanted Forest

Christmas must be on its way because the BHP Enchanted Forest is back to light up the Forestry Farm Park. It’s a tradition in our house to kick off the holiday season with some hot chocolate, carols and a drive through the park. Make sure you check out all the forest additions, my 10 year-old knows them by heart and is always excited to see the new lights. Tickets are $10 per person or $35 per car.
