Children’s Festival of Saskatchewan

Music, storytelling, circus acts and plenty of interactive activities, the Children’s Festival is the place to be for families with little ones. Take your kids to sing along with Ginalina, be wowed by circus artist Julia Perron, and by wowed by Mario the Magician. There’s so much to see and do, you really have to check out the full schedule. Day passes are $10 and are good for the day of your choice.

Metamorphosis Public Events on until June 8th at St. John’s Cathedral.

A very special collaboration between the SSO and artist Monique Martin is on for a few days more. Metamorphosis is an immersive art installation by Martin as she’s transformed the cathedral into a magical forest adorned with 25,000 hand drawn, silkscreened butterflies. A floor cloth painted to mimic the forest covers the floor, pews become rolling fields as they are draped with cloths silkscreened with the help of students at North Park Wilson School. The entire space is framed by live trees. This past week yoga classes, music, and dance performances have all been performed inside the exhibit. Thursday night pianist Sofia Mycyk will take the stage for her Butterfly Piano Recital tickets for that performance are $23. The exhibit will remain open until Sunday.

Dark Bridges Film Festival

Broadway Theatre

If you’re looking for something to get your heart racing, why not close out the month with the Dark Bridges Film Festival. It showcases new and classic horror movies that will have you shrieking with delight. The movies come from all over the world like  The Ugly Stepsister from Norway and Broken Bird from the United Kingdom. Tickets are $10 – $13 for single shows or $75 for an all access pass.

Party in the Park

W.E. Graham Park

Time to get your groove on to live music AND some lucky hockey players will get a shot at lacing up with an NHL player like Jeremy Roenick and Doug Glimour . Party in the Park is put on by SK Hockey Heroes, an organization that works together to create positive change in Saskatoon. This year’s event will raise money for the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Friday night there’s a draft where teams who’ve raised money will get to pick an NHL’er for their team. The tournament is Saturday. Friday and Saturday night you can join everyone in the park for performances by artists like The Reklaws, Phantom Power, and Brody Siebert. Tickets are $36 – $95 or a weekend pass is $118.

The Fransaskois Festival has been going strong in our city for more than 40 years and this year’s festival will continue that cultural celebration with live music from artists like Shawn Jobin, Uncle Jason, and Kizba. There are games, workshops and art shows. Cirk’Alors will entertain with its circus show. Facepainting, bouncy castles and plenty of activities for the whole family. Tickets are $15 – $25 or you can grab a weekend pass for $45.

ZZ Top

Who isn’t crazy bout a Sharp Dressed Man?? Throw in a few beards and you’ve got legendary band ZZ Top. The American rock band is out on the road for it’s Elevation tour.  ZZ Top got its start in the 70’s and cut through the music scene with hits like Tush, Gimme All Your Lovin, and Legs. The band isn’t coming alone, The Wallflowers will open the show. Tickets start at $69.

Queermunity Theatre Race

BackStage Stage – Remai Arts Centre

They’re kicking off Pride in style at Persephone Theatre with the fourth annual Queermunity Theatre Race. This is a 48-hour event that sees teams of aspiring thespians write their own original play and perform it in front of a live audience in only two days. The performances are Saturday night and all proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to Saskatoon Pride Home. Tickets are $15 – $30.

If you’re looking for a feel good show stuffed full of chart-topping hits then you’re not going to want to miss The Women’s Company production Annette is a Bimbo!. Join Nancy Parker and her friends at her 16th birthday sleepover as the girls talk about their worries, crushes, and not fitting in. Luckily, Nancy just got a magic record for her birthday and it summons Annette, a magical drag queen, who’s there to help them sort it all out. This is a beautiful coming of age story that was created right here in our province. Tickets are $27 – $37.

The Newcomer

From the folks of Ay, Caramba! Theatre, The Newcomer is a tale of Juma, a young man who after living in a refugee camp for 12 years is recruited to immigrate to Saskatoon with his family. It’s a story of resilience and hope. Tickets are $27 – $32.

Jim Jefferies

He’s known for his biting, observational comedy around the world and now Jim Jefferies is bringing his Son of a Carpenter tour to Saskatoon. The Australia native was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the Just for Laughs Festival in 2019. You may have seen his tv series, or one of his Netflix specials or even listened to his current podcast I Don’t Know About That with Jim Jefferies. Tickets are $63 – $152.
