Miracle on 34th Street

Persephone Theatre
Only one day after opening and Persephone Theatre has already extended the run for it’s holiday production of Miracle on 34th Street. Based on the 1947 film, this story follows Kris Kringle, a man called in to fill in for the intoxicated Santa in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. When Mr. Kringle makes claims to be the real Santa Claus, his sanity is called into question. This is a heartwarming classic for the whole family and stars many local actors including several children from right here in Saskatoon. Tickets are $30 – $47 and even with the extension until December 29th, they’ll go fast. Note, they’ll be no performances Dec. 23rd – 25th.

A Christmas Carol

It’s a 30-year tradition for John D. Huston. For three decades he’s staged the classic story of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. Huston tours with his one-man performance as Dickens himself. From Scrooge to Tiny Tim, Huston has mastered this story and it’s just the thing to get you in the holiday spirit. Tickets are $35 for this little piece of Christmas magic.

The team at Dancing Sky Theatre is back for the holidays with a new panto full of culture and laughs. Baba & the Gift of the Kohkum Scarf reunites us with Baba as she’s preparing for Christmas with her family and friends when disaster strikes. How can they celebrate the holidays with no presents? This tale about people coming together to share the season with others is one full of original story, puppetry, music and laughs for the whole family. Tickets are $20 – $35 and for $45 you can add on lunch or supper.

Jake Vaadeland is out on the road this holiday season spreading a little cheer. Vaadeland will be backed by the Sturgeon River Boys for a pair of performances. The band will put its bluegrass spin on holiday classics as well as perform two new singles just released Beautiful Star of Bethlehem and Jingle Bell Rock. Tickets are $25 – $40.

It’s a more modern but still classic film that we watch this time of year. The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra presents Elf in Concert. This is the live to concert film experience we’ve come to love from the SSO with the orchestra providing the soundtrack as the feature film plays on the big screen overhead. This performance will add a little extra magic to the 20th Anniversary of this Will Farrell comedy about Buddy the Elf and his quest to find his family. Tickets are going fast at $52 – $121.

The Bassment
Modern Alberta folk duo The Woodshed will be in town to share their beautiful harmonies. Wort Hannam and T. Buckley met during a residency at The Banff Centre in 2017 and started collaborating on music. The Woodshed has been described as a brotherly-like blend of intricate guitar playing and sophisticated writing. Tickets are $25 – $35.

The Great Canadian Roadtrip

Canadian country music stars are on a cross-country tour and making a stop in Saskatoon. The Great Canadian Roadtrip is a tour featuring Doc Walker, Jason McCoy and Michelle Wright, all award winning musicians. This is three incredible acts all at once. Tickets are $61 – $95.

The Broadway Theatre
Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre’s back with a holiday comedy you’re sure to love. Leave It To Weavers is a fast and funny tale from Saskatchewan comedians Dakota Ray Hebert, Danny Knight, Maureen Belanger and Ryan Moccasin. It’s the story of a family who hasn’t seen each other in a while. The siblings reunite at home on the rez for the holidays and to discuss some very important news. All’s calm and bright until they hear the pitter patter of hooves on the roof and Anita decides she needs to stock up the freezer. The show is fresh off a tour of Saskatchewan and back home at the Broadway Theatre. Tickets are $20 – $25 for evening and matinee performances.

They’ve been lighting up the Forestry Farm Park for 26 years this year and the BHP Enchanted Forest is tradition for my family. Make sure you check out all the forest additions, my 10 year-old knows them by heart and is always excited to see the new lights. Tickets are $10 per person or $35 per car.

Light up your Christmas with Glow Saskatoon. Make sure you bring your camera and the whole family to the indoor holiday light festival. As you wander through the light display, the kids can take part in a scavenger hunt following hidden clues to help Santa find his missing presents. If you find them all, you get a prize. There will be visits with Santa, appearances by the Disney princesses and plenty of local music featured on the entertainment stage. Tickets are $16 – $22 with group rates available.
