When it comes to truly Canadian musicians, the list has to include Joel Plaskett. The Halifax singer songwriter has been cranking out hits for three decades with songs like Nowhere With You and Through and Through and Through. He’s toured with bands like The Tragically Hip, Sloan and Kathleen Edwards. Plaskett is also a master behind the board producing for acts like Old Man Luedecke, Mo Kenney, and David Miles. He’s just released his 11th solo album One Real Reveal and the tour is stopping in Saskatoon. Tickets are $42.

Persephone Theatre opens its 50th Anniversary season with a tale of neighbours. Native Gardens is a comedy that follows two sets of neighbours with very different ideas of what their backyards are for. Pablo and Tania have just moved into their home and want their yard seeded back to native plants whereas Frank and Virginia next door have a carefully manicured  flower beds. The tension leads to hose fights, midnight spy missions and a squabble or two over the fence. Tickets are $43 – $60.

Do you love indie theatre? Look no further than downtown Saskatoon for Whirligig Theatre Collective’s latest production Final Notice. After a bit of a rocky start due to illness the play has hit the stage and you have two more chances to see it. Final Notice follows university tenants as they prepare to be evicted from their house after going on a rental strike. It’s their last hurrah in the house and they are going to party. There’s sex, drugs, queerness, and misunderstanding. Tickets are $19.

Muggles and Wizards unite! There’s a special screening for Potterheads of all ages. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets In Concert is an unforgettable experience from TCU Place, CineConcerts, and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra. Both the matinee and evening performances will feature the second movie in the series projected on a huge screen with the orchestra in front providing the John Williams soundtrack live in front of you. Come From Away

It’s a Canadian story that took the world by storm. Come From Away is a story based in the true story of the people of Gander Newfoundland in the wake of 9/11. That’s when the tiny communities residents opened their homes to 7,000 stranded travellers when their planes were grounded. It’s a story of coming together and it’s charmed audiences ever since it debuted in 2013. This is an uplifting visit to the theatre that will leave you humming the tunes long after the curtain call. Tickets are $64 – $160.

Bruce McCulloch

The show must go on and that’s exactly what’s happening with Bruce McCulloch’s one-man show when the comedian’s original September 25th date had to be postponed after his WestJet flight to Saskatoon was cancelled. The Canadian comedy legend will hit the stage at The Broadway Theatre Wednesday. McCulloch shot to fame in the 80s and 90s with The Kids in the Hall, he went on to write for Saturday Night Live and act and direct in movies and television series. All that work means a lot of fun stories. McCulloch is out on tour with his one-man show Tales of Bravery and Stupidity sharing his experiences. It’s one part stand-up, one part storytelling and tons of fun. Tickets are $33 – $43.
