If you love Rockabilly, you’re not going to want to miss Petunia & The Vipers at the Capitol Music Club. The band’s sound has been described as Hank Williams on acid and it blends folk with country rock, French cabaret, jazz, and punk for a truly unique sound. They’ve been touring North America in support of a new album Lonesome Heavy and Lonesome and are stopping at the Capitol for a show. Saskatoon’s The Whiskey Jerks will open. Tickets are $20 – $25.

Optimist Hill 

Get ready for the long-awaited sequel by seeing the original film. Optimist Hill is bringing back movies in the park this month and opening with the 1988 Tim Burton classic Beetlejuice the same weekend as the sequel opens in theatres. The twisted fantasy/horror/comedy follows a recently deceased couple (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin) who haunt their former house trying to scare away the Deetz family who are now living there. They partner up with a freelance bio-exorcist Beetlejuice played by Michael Keaton. Before the show, at 7:00p.m., you can enjoy the musical talents of Rory Lawford. The movie starts at 9:00p.m.. The concession will be open and admission is by donation.

DOYLEFEST

Eagle Creek Regional Park (Near Asquith)           

It began as a birthday celebration for Eliza Mary Doyle and 10 years later, Doylefest is a full blown weekend of entertainment and fun in support of the Community Arts Mentorship Program (CAMP). The program provides music, instruments, and art lessons to communities in need. The festival site is just a short drive outside Saskatoon. There’s camping, an artisan market, beer gardens and activities for the whole family on site. Live performances by artists like Big Tones, Chesterfield, Clayton Linthicum, The Seahags, and many more. Tickets are $30 for day passes and $50 for the weekend.

BROADWAY STREET FAIR

Broadway Avenue will be the site of live music, local merchants, and some tasty food. Like an old school block party, annual street fair is a great place to reconnect with the community and have a little fun. New this year is the Maker’s Market in the Victoria School gym where local crafters will be selling their handmade creations. The entertainment includes performances by several cultural groups and musicians like Oral Fuentes, Kateryna Grace and Dereck Wilson. Take the kids to the BHP Kids Zone for bouncy castles, face painting, a petting zoo, and more. This is a free event.

Green River Revival

If you’re looking for a show full of classic rock, why not head to The Broadway Theatre for Green River Revival. The band has been called one of North America’s most authentic sounding tributes to Creedence Clearwater Revival. The band has spent the past two decades touring all over Canada, the U.S. and Scandinavia. Bad Moon Rising, Suzie Q, and Down On The Corner, you’ll hear these hits and so many more. There’s a matinee and evening show for you to choose from. Tickets are $49.
