Four days of new and classic horror movies that will have you shrieking with delight. The movies come from all over the world like  the creature feature Sting from Australia and from right here at home with Saskatoon’s Abhorrent. Tickets are $10 – $15 for single shows or $150 for an all access pass.

Capitol Music Club

The 10th anniversary celebration at the Capitol winds up this weekend with Toronto comedian Eric Johnston. He’s out on the road on his fifth coast-to-coast tour. If Johnston looks familiar you may have caught him on his several T.V. appearances in shows like Just for Laughs, Splatalot, Family Feud Canada, and Fargo. His comedy is all about stories from his childhood, his father was professional wrestler Bullwhip Johnson, and life on the road. Tickets are $25.

The Refinery

Does one moment define a life? Sienna Holden’s Breathe is a new musical being brought to life through a partnership with Burnt Thicket Theatre. The story centres around three generations of women as they try to find reconciliation after addiction has torn them apart. Sarah is a recovering addict working to reconnect with her daughter and her own mother and find healing. Burnt Thicket is hosting a free workshop reading, a sung read-trough of the show, Friday night. It’s an exciting step on the way to seeing this show on the stage.

The temperatures are rising, the blooms are bursting and it’s time to celebrate on Broadway Avenue. Everyone’s hitting the street to party with cultural performances, children’s activities and live music by acts like the Oral Fuentes Reggae Band. The fun kicks off at 10:ooa.m. and the fun runs until 5:00p.m.. Get the family together for a scavenger hunt along Broadway as you check out the local businesses too. This is a free festival and everyone is welcome.

Pride Month Begins

June is Pride Month and Saskatoon’s organizers are kicking events off this weekend, dabbers in hand, for Pride Bingo. Grab a card and get ready to win some great prizes and have a few laughs. All the proceeds go towards Saskatoon Pride. Later in the month there will be the 48-hour Queer-munity Theatre Race at Persephone, the first ever Rainbow Run, a 10K, 5K or 2.5K family fun run, as well as dance parties, sporting events and other community gatherings. Mark your calendars for the annual Pride Parade and Pride in the Park celebrations on June 22nd. Tickets for this weekend’s bingo are $28.

The Bassment

They’re celebrities around these parts. J.J. Guy and Gordon Stobbe have been part of the Saskatchewan fiddle community for years as performers and music educators. They regularly take part in workshops and festivals and now you can see them do what they do best on stage. This concert will take them back to their roots with a collection of original tunes with support from pianist Cathy Sproule. Tickets are $25 – $35 for a toe tapping good time.

Saskatoon’s Sum Theatre is back with a brand new musical adventure for families. The Reel Whirled takes the audience into the online world as a trio of friends set out on a quest to get the attention of their favourite influencer. There’s music, giant puppetry and tons of audience participation. The performance is free, you just bring a lawnchair or blanket and enjoy the show. The tour will start in Saskatoon till mid-June and then heads out for dates across the province.
