Messiah & Sing-Along Messiah

The SSO’s performance of Handel’s Messiah may be sold out but you can watch the performance online at ConcertStream.tv and you still have a chance to see the performance in the sing-along format on Sunday afternoon. Join guest vocalists Casey Penden, Oli Gusselle, Spencer McKnight and Brenden Friesen along with the SSO Chorus led by Duff Warkentin in this holiday fun. The tradition celebrates 110 years in our city this weekend and it will all be done under the direction of guest conductor Cosette Justo Valdés. Tickets are $18. The livestream is available for $21.

Mary of Patuanak

You still have two nights left to see this original twist on the classic Christmas tale of the birth of the sacred child. Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre’s production of Bruce Sinclair’s Mary of Patuanak is set in 1985 and follows a Dene woman caught in a dream world. As she travels she meets an elder Maggie and Joe a carpenter who falls in love with her. When Mary discovers she’s pregnant, she decides to travel back to her home community of Patuanak for the birth. Tickets are $18 – $21.

The Refinery
Looking for a little holiday theatre for the kids that won’t break the bank? Wide Open Children’s Theatre is back with all the puppet fun, music and stories you can handle packed into a 45-minute show. The elves have been hard at work on new costumes and characters for this performance. This is one for the whole family and don’t worry about the wiggles because at Wide Open show, you’re expected to get in on the action. Tickets are $12 – $17.

Nutcracker

There are still a few tickets available for this classic performance by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Nutcracker follows young Clara as her nutcracker comes to life to defend her from the Mouse King and his army. This beautiful production will also feature some local talent as young dancers from Saskatoon and area will be performing alongside the company. Tickets are $35 – $125.

It’s a love letter to Ukrainian people from the entire creative team at Dancing Sky Theatre. Baba’s Magic Mitten is a holiday panto that delivers a healthy dose of laughter along with original music and puppetry in a show for the whole family. The performances are in Meacham, just a short drive outside Saskatoon. You can go for just the play or come early to enjoy the Ukrainian themed brunch or dinner. Tickets are sold out for Sunday but there are still a few available for Thurs. – Sat.

Be swept away by the magic of Cirque Du Soleil’s Corteo this holiday season. The story is centred around the funeral parade of a clown. This show has captured the world since it began touring having been seen by more than 10 million people in more than 20 countries. Follow the lead character Mauro as he looks back on the love, loss and triumph of his life. This show is full of acrobatics, comedy and many more circus stunts. Tickets are $66 – $150.

Glow Saskatoon

Light up your Christmas with Glow Saskatoon. Make sure you bring your camera and the whole family to the indoor holiday light festival. As you wander through the light display, the kids can take part in a scavenger hunt following hidden clues to help Santa find his missing presents. If you find them all, you get a prize. There will be visits with Santa, appearances by the Disney princesses and plenty of local music featured on the entertainment stage. Tickets are $34 and you need to pre-book your spot to attend.

Miss Bennet Christmas at Pemberley

Who doesn’t like a good sequel? If you’re a fan of Jane Austen’s classic Pride and Prejudice, you’re going to want to see Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley. The story picks up two years after the original novel ends and focuses on Mary Bennet, the bookish middle sister, who is still at home after her sisters are all married. Mary begins to wonder, “Is there life beyond what she already knows?”. Tickets are $47 – $60.

Office Christmas Party

The Saskatoon Soaps are always busy this time of year entertaining groups at the ole’ office Christmas party but did you know they were also getting inspiration for this month’s show? The live improv comedy show will take a run at the office Christmas party full of eggnog, appetizers and bad decisions when booze and co-workers combine. Tickets are $15.

They’ve been lighting up the Forestry Farm Park for 25 years this year and the BHP Enchanted Forest is tradition for my family. This year there are three new light displays added to the annual favourites. Santa visits Dec. 16th. Passes are $10 each or $35 per car.

It’s a heartwarming musical celebration from Saskatoon’s Fireside Singers. The annual holiday show has been around for more than 50 years and will include seasonal classics as well as more modern tunes. This year’s guest artists include Danika Lorén. Tickets are $53.

Looking for some cartoon fun come to life with your little ones? It’s Bluey to the rescue! Bluey’s Big Play is a live action version of the Emmy award-winning television series and it’s coming to Saskatoon for three shows. The story will ring true for many parents this time of year. Dad is looking for a Sunday afternoon time out but Bluey and Bingo have other plans as they try to get him off that bean bag to play. This show is one for the whole family and there’s lots of audience participation. There’s giant puppets, balls tossed around the audience for a game of keepy uppy and bubbles. Tickets are $27 – $82.
