Nothing more magical than art imitating life and that’s just what the audience is getting when they see First Métis Man of Odesa. The story is based on the real-life love story of the play’s leads Ukrainian artist Mariya Khomutova and Métis playwright Matthew MacKenzie. It follows the couple as they meet, fall in love, deal with the pandemic, war in Ukraine, and their own expanding family. Tickets are $32 – $41.

It’s a lot to live up to. In 2018, Jeremy Dutcher’s debut album won the Polaris Music Prize, a Juno and praise from critics and fans alike. Now the Indigenous tenor from New Brunswick is back with new music in the album Motewonlonuwok, his sophomore offering and is out on tour. This album is more contemporary in its sound and there are even songs in English. The performance will be a stripped down version with Dutcher and his jazz combo backing him on stage. Dutcher is known for his powerful and poignant performance. Tickets are $25 – $45.

The Saskatoon Soaps are at it again with a spooky, Halloween themed improv show. You never know what is going to happen at a Soaps show, this is improv based on audience suggestions after all. The group’s own description promises to leave you in stitches and craving a pumpkin spiced latte. Tickets are $15.

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra is teaming up with Canadian recording artist Sarah Slean to celebrate the music of Joni Mitchell on the eve of her 80th birthday. A Case of You is a performance of orchestral arrangements by Vince Mendoza of songs like River, A Case of You and Circle Game. It’s a retrospective of Mitchell’s albums Both Sides Now and Travelogue with other hits thrown in. Slean first took the stage to pay tribute to Mitchell’s music with the SSO in 2018 and is excited to be back. This is going to be an evening of sweeping melodies and big emotions. Tickets are $75 – $107.

Jazz Festival regulars have sweated it out with Five Alarm Funk and you know this horn and percussion band brings the party.
