Classic film & holiday tradition collide in GTNT’s Christmas show
Left alone @ home, a Kohkom must outsmart a pair of thieves to save Christmas!
It’s a holiday tradition for Gordon Tootoosis Nīkānīwin Theatre, the Rez Christmas series is back this time for its spin on the classic holiday movie Home Alone.
Alone @ Home marks the first time actor Danny Knight will don his best dress to play one of the lead roles in this gender bending production. He says playing one of the wacky Kohkoms is all about spreading joy and laughter during the holidays.
“Everyone has that one crazy relative!”
“Everyone has that one crazy relative,” says Knight. “We can see their faults but at the same time, we’re paying tribute to their strength and the unconditional love they have for their communities and their family.”
When the story begins, we find Sihkos has missed a ride into the city with Zula and Clare to gather supplies for a feast. Sihkos is expecting a quiet night at home to reflect on her late husband when two robbers try to break in. That’s when this Kohkom springs into action. It’s her home and she has to defend it.
Director Aaron Shingoose says these comedies are a great break from the Christmas rush.
“Christmas is an emotionally exhausting time for people and ultimately this show is all about fun.” He says, “I hope audiences walk away with a sense of warmth and appreciation for their own loved ones. That’s what the holidays are all about.”
