The Deep End Series at Persephone Theatre opens up with a story of people caught between Generation X and Millenials. Jasper and K.J. are dropouts who find themselves entrenched in a coffee shop musing about making it big. As they visit, they befriend and begin to “teach” 17 year-old Evan who works there. This is a fun play by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Annie Baker. Tickets are $34.

It’s a celebration of pop culture, movies, comics and gaming and it’s all happening in one place this weekend. The Saskatchewan Entertainment Expo is in its fifth year and now boasts a huge crowd and even bigger names. This is your chance to get up close and personal with stars like Trish Stratus of the WWE, film and tv star John Ratzenberger, voice actor Jim Cummings and character actors Doug Jones and Ron Perlman. A highlight for this year’s expo is a special Friday night screening of Degrassi: School’s Out with in person appearances by stars Pat Mastroianni and Stacie Mistysyn. Tickets for the Expo run $25 – $75 with weekend passes available.

Folk Music Fun       Friday

It’s a big year for the Great Lake Swimmers. 2018 marks the band’s 15th Anniversary and to celebrate its released a new album The Waves, The Wake. The band specializes in folk rock music that has gotten recognition with Juno nominations and even shortlisting for the Polaris Music Prize. Folk singer songwriter Megan Bonnell will open the show. Tickets are $29

Heavy Hitters       Saturday

Heavy metal fans unite as one of the greats is coming to Saskatoon for a show. Metallica has rocked crowds for nearly four decades and now the band is out on the road for its WorldWired Tour. Enter Sandman, Whiskey in the Jar, Nothing Else Matters, the band is sure to play all its hits. Tickets are $79 – $165.

The Word on the Street Festival is coming back to Saskatoon for a celebration of literacy that will include appearances by authors like Alice Kuipers, Sharon Butala and Trevor Cole. This is a place to rediscover the joy of reading. There’s plenty of events to keep the kids entertained inside the Treasure Island tent. Pick up a book while you’re there, meet the author and get it signed. This is Free to the public.
