Brit’s Picks July 27 – Aug. 3

Summer Theatre          Thurs. & Fri.

Various Parks

You only have two chances left to enjoy a free, family friendly show in Saskatoon’s neighbourhood parks. The Woodcutter and the Lion has been drawing huge crowds over the month of July. The show tells the story of a woodcutter who, forced by drought, has to travel to an island where a dangerous lion lives to find wood. Thursday night’s show is in Les Kerr Park and Friday the cast heads into Ashworth Holmes Park to round out its 23 show run. It’s a performance full of puppetry, music and dance and the kids even get to have a cameo in the show. All showtimes are at 7:00p.m.

80s Magic      Thursday

Saskatoon Event Centre

Dive back into the world of big hair and new wave pop of the 19080s with A Flock of Seagulls. The British pop band is out on the road celebrating its music. The band dominated early MTV with hits like I Ran (So Far Away). They wowed us with their hairdos and their synth-heavy hits you won’t want to miss this show full of nostalgia. Tickets are $35.

Space Spoof         Sunday

The Broadway Theatre

It’s a cult classic and a film that takes on the Star Wars franchise for a laugh a minute ride through space. Spaceballs featured performances by comedic greats like Mel Brooks, John Candy and Rick Moranis. The film follows the evil leaders of Planet Spaceball as they battle for air from their peace-loving neighbour Planet Duridia. The film turns 30 this year and to celebrate the Broadway Theatre is bringing it back to the big screen for Sci-Fi Sunday. This is a great chance to take the family to see a show many of us remember fondly. Tickets are $7.
