It’s a celebration of fresh music from prairie composers and performers. Strata Festival was created by Sask New Music to highlight their new works and to grow young talent. The festival features performances and workshops throughout the weekend. Friday’s concert will feature Canadian art songs by Soprano Kerry Anne Kutz and three mini-operas performed by Little Opera On The Prairie. Saturday Kutz will give a lecture on her performance. Saturday will also feature workshops for young composers by composer and musician Barbara Croall and the night will wrap up with a cabaret style evening and performances of short percussion pieces. Sunday the festival will wrap with a feature performance by Croall and she will be joined by the Strata Ensemble. Some events are free and ticketed events run between $10 – $25.

Pride Party             Now – June 25

The silver anniversary for the Saskatoon Pride Festival is in full swing. For 25 years, the festival has tried to create an inclusive and fun celebration for all ages. A few highlights this weekend include Saturday’s Drag Queen Storytime. Families are invited to come down to Pooh’s Corner at the Frances Morrison Library for children’s stories read by Puffy Von PopnFresh, China White and even the Queen Mother. Sunday there will be a pride march through Saskatoon’s downtown and then an all ages swimming party at the Radisson. Saskatoon’s bars will be hopping through the week with various themed parties. There will be a riverboat cruise next weekend, a prom just for teens and many more events. Friday June 16, pop into the Hilton Garden Inn for the Live in Colour Art and Fashion Show to see the latest local artists and designers have to offer. The whole month wraps up with a special partnership between the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and Saskatoon Pride. The pride parade will wind through the city’s downtown and land in Kiwanis Park North for a joint celebration of music and community on the jazz festival free stage. Ticket prices vary depending on the event.

Saskatoon Farmers’ Market

For those about to rock… We salute you! It’s your chance to be a star without ever touching an instrument. The 2017 Saskatchewan Air Guitar Championships are back in the city for another year. Throw your inhibitions out the window and pick a song that you can rock out to for one minute. You could win some pretty cool prizes including a spot to compete at the National Championships in Toronto. This event is free to the public but donations of $10 are being collected in support of Creative Kids. The show starts at 6:00p.m..

Magic Man         Tuesday

He wowed audiences with his sleight of hand on Britain’s Got Talent but illusionist Darcy Oake was honing his skills long before then. At 16 Oake became an international magic champion and went on to headline the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He’s performed throughout Europe and across North America and now he’s on tour in Canada and stopping here in Saskatoon. Tickets are $38 – $63.
