Beauty in Betrayal             Now – May 14

The Refinery

It’s an elegant tale of revenge and seduction that you may already know. Les Liaisons Dangereuses is a novel that spawned such films as Cruel Intentions and Dangerous Liaisons. Now the live theatre version of that story is hitting the stage as the final play in Live Five Independent Theatre’s season. This is a world where words are weapons and the characters battle to come out on top in an aristocratic society. The costuming in this show is beautiful and the local cast is a who’s who of Saskatchewan theatre. Tickets are $20-$25.

Comedy With Bite           Friday – May 21

Dancing Sky Theatre

One of Dancing Sky Theatre’s most successful comedies is coming back to the stage. Dogbarked was voted on by the audience as the show they most wanted to see back in celebration of the theatre’s 20th anniversary. The show follows two very small town farmers who want to put the place they live in on the map. Their life of porch sitting and beer drinking is interrupted when travellers from Toronto get lost. This is a story about the urban/rural divide and of course takes a few pokes at prairie life. Tickets are $30 – $57 depending on whether you want to come early for a meal.

Musical Intimacy           May 11 – 14

Various Venues

It’s a chance to get up close and personal with master musicians and experience classical music in a different way. The Ritornello Chamber Music Festival has been around for nearly a decade and continues to push the boundaries and introduce people to the classical realm. This year’s festival will feature three shows, all with a different feel. Concert pianist John Kimura Parker will kick things off (May 11) with a show at Convocation Hall. Kimura Parker has played all over the world in venues like Carnegie Hall. He not only plays, but entertains the audience with his stories from the road. Ottawa’s Ironwood String Quartet will keep the party going with a show at Village Guitar & Amp (May 12). Ironwood is a darling of the Ottawa pub scene and features Saskatoon’s own Carissa Klopoushak. This is a show where you can grab a beer, enjoy tapas and let the music wash over you. The weekend wraps up with a special Mother’s Day concert (May 14). This show will feature Saskatoon’s Mistral 5 as well as Klopoushak who will sit in on various pieces. Tickets are $25 – $30 and weekend passes are available.
