Tell old man winter to talk to the hand because there’s a celebration this weekend that will make you forget all about snow and ice. Winterruption is a three-day festival created by the Broadway Theatre and the Regina Folk Festival to bust you out of hibernation and enjoying live entertainment. When it comes to music, you won’t want to miss Danny Michel (Fri.), Said the Whale (Sat.) and a special brunch with Fred Penner (Sun.). Penner’s show features his music for children so it’s great for the whole family. Steve Patterson (Fri.) and Ali Hassan (Sat.) will keep you laughing and Canadaland podcaster Jesse Brown (Fri.) will talk about his work in modern media. Tickets range between $15 – $30.

Shivering Strings             Saturday

It’s a chance for you to polka, two-step and square dance the night away without the formality of a wedding. The Shivering Strings West old time dance is brought to you by the team that runs the FiddlyNess summer fiddle camp out at Ness Creek. The event caps off a three-day camp for aspiring fiddle players. It’s a chance for the instructors to get up on stage and strut their stuff. The best part is this dance is open to the entire family, you can get your rum and coke right next to an apple juice box. Midnight lunch is at 9:30pm. Tickets are $20.

Mozart Magic     Sun. – Jan. 28

Whether you’re new to the world of classical music or you are a long-time fan, it’s hard to deny the impact Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has had on the music world over the last 200 years. The Saskatoon Symphony is celebrating the music of Mozart in many different ways over the next week. An intimate Chamber concert at the Delta Bessborough Hotel (Sun.), a screening of Milos Forman’s Academy Award winning Amadeus (Wed.) and a lecture on Mozart’s Violin by David Bowser (Jan. 27) are just a few of the events in honour of the great composer. The week wraps up with a full blown SSO show at TCU Place on Saturday night featuring world famous violinist Timothy Chooi. Tickets depend on the show and range between $10 – $68.
