The Refinery
The story of a mother’s relationship with her child and her struggle to let go. The Pink Unicorn is the first show of Live Five Independent Theatre’s 2016/2017 season. It’s a show that tackles gender identity and what happens when a little girl doesn’t want to be a little girl anymore. This show stars Kristi Friday, one of Live Five’s founders as Trisha-Lee, a mother faced with her daughter’s desire to live gender neutral. The show opens this week and there will be a special post show discussions after the Saturday and Sunday night performances. Tickets are $25.

Riabko Returns Thursday
Broadway Theatre
He’s performed in Off-Broadway in New York, sold out shows in London’s West End and now Saskatoon’s Kyle Riabko is bringing his musical home. Kyle Riabko : Bacharach Reimagined is a show that Riabko created to explore the musical work of Burt Bacharach. Riabko wanted to show friends and family what he’s been up to these past five years so he’s bringing a stripped down version home. This performance is one that celebrates the music and doesn’t get wrapped up in a cheesy storyline. It’s going to be an intimate night of storytelling and music performed by one of our city’s best. Tickets are $27.

Musical Struggle Now – Sept. 28
Persephone Theatre
Times are tough on the family farm and the stress begins to unravel a hardworking prairie couple in this musical based around the songs of Fred Eaglesmith. Dear Johnny Deere is the opening show for Persephone Theatre this year and it also marks the return of local musician Carrie Catherine to the stage. This is a live musical performance with a sweet story at the centre. Tickets are $33.

Colouring Dream Sept. 24 & 25
Artists’ Loft Studio
The adult colouring book craze just got a little more dreamy with the help of Saskatoon artist Denyse Klette. Fairies in Dreamland is a whimsical set of 62 sketches featuring sleepy fairies. The book has been on Amazon’s Top 100 since its release. To celebrate Klette is holding a colouring party on Saturday and Sunday free for the public. You can purchase books, see the original sketches on the gallery walls and visit with the artist. There’s also a special VIP event on Saturday night.

Mysterious Lovers Sept. 22 – Oct. 8

A brand new theatre company in Saskatoon is bringing a haunting story to life over the next two weekends. The River is the story of a man who brings his new girlfriend on a weekend getaway. Turns out, she may not be the only woman he’s brought there. This show has been called unnerving, subtle and dark and it’s definitely worth a try. Tickets are $15 – $20.
