Prairie Play Premiere May 26 – June 4 Persephone Theatre Backstage
He’s a beloved Saskatoon writer and known the world over and now the work of Yann Martel is being celebrated on a Saskatoon Stage. Beatrice & Virgil is the story of a writer, struggling to write a novel after his first one was a huge success. He’s recruited by a mysterious taxidermist to help write a play but there’s much more to the story and it has wide reaching repercussions. This is a mysterious and dark play and definitely one that will have you thinking about it days and weeks after. Tickets are $20-$25.
Top of the Hops May 26-28 Prairieland Park
My grandpa always says, “Nothing tastes as sweet as a beer on a hot Summer day!” Now is your chance to find that perfect brew, by sampling a few. Top of the Hops – Grapes & Grains is back for another year. This event is sponsored by the POW City Kinsmen and features more than 200 different liquor samples. Ritornello May 27-29 Various Venues
Saskatoon’s chamber music festival is back for its 8th year and they have an award winning lineup to show for it. Juno award winners Gryphon Trio is headlining the festival and will perform both Friday and Sunday. The group is also giving a master class for young local musicians. Along with the more traditional, intimate chamber concerts, there’s the Saturday night show which throws all conventions out the window. Cellist and composer Cris Derksen will combine loop pedals and recorded music to create an experimental sound that is out of this world. Weekend passes are available for $40 Tickets are between $15 – $30.
Food Truck Wars May 27-29 Sutherland Curling Club
It’s so much more than street meat these days. Saskatoon’s food truck scene is ever growing it seems and for one weekend a year, you can sample all the tasty treats all under one roof. Food Truck Wars is an annual family friendly festival that features 15 local trucks and they are all ready to feed the masses. There will also be live entertainment. Admission is $5, 12 and under are free.
