Saskatchewan’s country musicians getting ready to shine
Artists from all over Saskatchewan will be in Saskatoon this weekend to celebrate and honour each other. The 2016 Saskatchewan Country Music Association Awards & Music Festival begins Friday.
For many this is a chance to celebrate the past year’s accomplishments. Codie Prevost has been busy, he’s released music videos, new singles and is currently in the recording studio working on his next album. On top of that, he’s on the SCMA board helping promote the industry and he’s a new dad. Prevost is nominated in 4 categories including entertainer and male vocalist of the year. “It’s awesome to be nominated and recognized by your peers,” he says.
Prevost says the committee behind the SCMA Awards has a huge show planned. Canadian country music star Chad Brownlee is hosting the star studded event at TCU Place Saturday night.
“People are really excited about country music and that’s amazing.”
“There will be performances by many of the nominated artists. “We’ve come a long way,” says Prevost. “It’s amazing to see how the weekend has grown over the last few years. People are really excited about country music and that’s amazing.”
Prevost says this is an important part of being an artist in this province. “You get a chance to be heard by some really important people from within the music industry,” he explains. “If you are looking to make a career of this, these are the people that need to hear you.”
There’s plenty for fans to be excited about. Performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday offers plenty of Saskatchewan stars as well as newcomers. Audiences will be treated to performances by Chad Brownlee, Jess Moskaluke and Wyatt.
