Wintertime is a sacred time for Indigenous communities, where knowledge about people and lived experiences are traditionally shared. The Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples (LSSAP) partners with local libraries, schools and community organizations to host in-person and online events throughout the province for the entire month of February. There’s artist workshops, music performances, dance and, of course storytelling. These events are free to the public.

Are you feeling funky? If you are, you’re in luck because there’s a Saskatoon group ready to entertain. FunkJoint is a musical collective that blends acid-jazz with funk and improvisation into a show that will leave you in the groove. Catch them at the Bassment for $25 – $35.

Sask. Jewish Arts Festival

The Saskatchewan Jewish Arts Festival is back for round two! This is a celebration of culture, theatre, tradition, and visual art. The festival kicks off with the world premiere of Saskatoon playwright Jenna Berenbaum’s 18 Jews Order Chinese Food. The play is part of Persephone Theatre’s mainstage season. The celebrations continue with events like a klezmer Shabbat Service, a Jewish cooking workshop, and a showcase of artwork by Saskatoon Jewish artists curated by Carol Wylie. Internationally renowned artist Leah Rosenberg is coming home to create a window installation at Congregation Agudas Synagogue and will also be giving a workshop where visitors can create their own beautiful pieces to take home. Most of the events, except the play are free to the public. Tickets for 18 Jews Order Chinese Food are $30 – $32.

What if they were real? 25th Street theatre takes on an irreverent comedy about 16-year-old Thai who’s having a rough time at life these days when Mustard, her imaginary friend shows up and is unwilling to leave and wants to date her mom. This is a twisted fairytale about growing up, moving on, and finding magic. You still have a few days to see this funny, heartfelt show. Tickets are $17 – $27.

Sammy Lee Folkerson is a name tied closely to Saskatoon’s music community. The multi-instrumentalist has been performing professionally since he was a kid and this weekend marks another milestone in that career. Folkerson will be hitting up the Cap with his sophomore, self-titled album. He’s bringing musical friends Matt Johner and Kateryna Gracewill to share their music and the stage at this party. Tickets are $24 – $44.

Mini Pop Kids Live!

Get ready for some good vibes with the Mini Pop Kids! This year the Mini Pop Kids franchise celebrates it’s 20th anniversary and the group is on its Celebration Tour. This is a show that will entertain kids and adults alike as these tiny popsters cover some of today’s chart-topping hits. With songs like Hot To Go!, Stick Season, and I Had Some Help on the set list you and the littles can sing along together. Tickets are $45 – $58.

La Troupe du Jour presents Arthur Milner’s Getting To Room Temperature. The comedy is a one man show that tells the story of the author’s experience with his elderly mother and her desire to die with dignity. The play is an emotional journey through the questions that arise when a person you love chooses medical assistance in dying. The play is in French with English surtitles. Tickets are $15 – $30.

Canadian indie pop band Peach Pit is out o n the road on The Magpie Tour across Canada. The band describes its music as “chewed bubblegum pop” and it’s fuzzed out guitar sound has a really cool surf rock vibe. Vancouver rockers Babe Corner will open the show. Tickets are $48 – $61.

The British are coming! Moulettes is an English art-rock group that have shared the stage with artists like John Paul Jones and Mick Jagger. They have a unique sound blending folk, prog-rock, and pop with synths, viola, and cello. Moulettes sound has been called otherworldly and they are great live. Tickets ate $37 – $47.
