Frosty Fun                Now – Feb 5

Saskatoon Farmers’ Market

If you’ve been by the Farmers’ Market in the past week, you’ll know that the site is alive with a ton of outdoor fun. Potashcorp Wintershines is back for another year. This is a festival that brings people out into the elements to celebrate winter. Families will want to check out the snow sports park and the kiddies ice play area. There will be sleigh and pony rides and, if you need a warm up, head inside for the Winter Wonderland Carnival. Most of the events are free of charge but it’s $2 to get into the snow park, $5 for a pony ride and a few of the other specialty events cost around $10.

There’s so much to see and do, you really have to check out the website for full details.

Blonde is Back          Saturday

Saskatoon Events Centre

They are arguably the biggest rock act to come out of Canada in the 1980s and now you have a chance to see them live. Platinum Blonde drove the new wave movement here with hits like Doesn’t Really Matter and Crying Over You. The band released its latest album in 2012 and these rockers want their show to be a trip down memory lane. Members of Platinum Blonde have been chatting in the press about the need for their brand of rock and roll right now as a way to remember simpler times. Grab your hairspray and your tickets, they are $35.

Road Warriors       Monday

Prairieland Park

Ok full disclosure, I love the Arkells. This Hamilton band blends alt-rock with pop and a healthy dose of wit in their lyrics to come out on the other side with music perfect for the party. The Arkells latest release Morning Report even has a song about meeting Canadian rapper Drake’s Dad in Tennessee. The band is out on a North American and European tour and it’s stopping in Saskatoon early next week. Tickets are $40.
